Being Erica - The 4th Season

Being Archibald? Eew, I don't like that name and I'm glad its not going to happen.

Jenny! I'm sooo happy that Jenny and Erica are friends again. Its the right move and Dr. Tom has it right once again, its about balance. Yes, Jenny has done things that have given Erica a lot of trouble and hurt in the past, but it doesn't mean they can't find some middle ground and continue being friends.

As it stand right now, there's probably only one last lesson Erica needs to learn before being a full fledged TTT; that all the things a full fledged time travel therapist does in helping others can not only be done without time travel, it be done by any normal person like you and me.

It would have to contend with the relatively popular Being Human too.

Though, Nate Archibald is one of the weaker characters on gossip girl so the name is like nails on chalk board to me.

- I knew we'd see Jenny again.

- This season never made use of the psychic assistant. I thought she'd figure Erica out or something.

- Still no Dr. Arthur. Weren't he and Dr. Naadiah discussing "plans" for Erica? Looked like something sinister was going on, but that never came to pass. Of course, we still have another episode left.

- Sam and Lenin haven't been around much either.

- I like that Tom isn't being forced to shoose between being a therapist and being with Amanda. And it looks like he might not die afterall, but will he have his memory wiped? Anyway, as mentioned last week, what does this mean for Tom/Michael Riley in season 5 if we get there? I suppose Erica could break the rules and Tom could still be around in some capacity. Future Dr. Erica may have missed Tom, but we also know that the future isn't etched in stone. Maybe I'm speculating too much. There's still next week's episode.

- The title of the show is a fascinating one. "Being Erica" has a double meaning. On one hand it means simply "being Erica" and on the other, it mean "the being that is Erica".

I'ld imagine Sam and Lenin are happily, busily tired with their new baby. I think the next time we see them, it would be Sam telling Erica that Lenin has proposed to Sam.

As for season 5, I'm not so certain it would happen. As a fan I would certainly LOVE to see Erica in action for another season, especially if she's now a Doctor offering insightful counterpoints and dishing out sagely advice to a newbie patient.

However, if this season ends with Erica becoming a Doctor, I would say her current journey is complete. Erica can start out on another wonderful journey but that is another story for another time. Being Erica ends with season 4.

Great episode. I actually thought it was one of the strongest from this season. I love all the little touches such as Jenny coming back, Erica hopping onto Adam's motorcycle after being so against it earlier in the season, and I liked how Erica realized the problem and the lesson on her own.

As for Tom, I think I was pretty much right in that he wouldn't die, and the reasons for not keeping in touch with Erica are pretty similar to what I'd speculated. It seems that the Dr world is quite a complex one with many rules. It's interesting that earlier in the season 3 thread, I speculated about the lines between patient and doctor that don't seem all that different to how we learned in this episode. Future Erica knew she wouldn't see him again, not because of death but because of the rules involved in the doctor world. But it's likely that in this timeline he reverses that decision now that he knows the implications. I think he treasures Erica, not only as a patient, but as a friend, and I don't think resigning would allow him to still be friends with her when she's a Doctor. So, that leads to another question. If Erica knew about those circumstances, and that Tom was thinking of resigning, would Erica willingly become a Doctor? I'd imagine they'd want to remain friends, and that despite her training, she'd feel like it was too much to ask for.

At this point, me neither. I've been struggling with this season because it seems rather weak, as if the writers aren't trying as hard this season as compared to others, so honestly I don't really see it happening. At this point the show already feels tired out and I can't really see them having it in them to continue on for a 5th season. I don't think it's very realistic at this point to expect a 5th one.

Yeah, 2012. :p

Personally, I don't think the show feels tired at all. They haven't even gotten to the good stuff, namely Erica as a doctor, which is why I want a 5th season. As for this particular journey being complete, I suppose that argument can be made, but again, there's so much they can still do. Sometimes you want to leave the audience wanting more or leave some things to the imagination, but if you ask me, this isn't one of those instances.

Speaking of season 5, anyone notice all the McCain pizza commercials that play during the show? Well, here's what it's all about... McCain 15 Seconds of Fame Contest
The Grand Prize consists of a walk-on-role in the Fall 2012 season of Being Erica the ("Program"). In the event that Being Erica is not renewed for the Fall 2012 season, the walk-on-role will become a 15 second taped segment with one of the primary actors from the show, to air in the spring / summer of 2012. Specific date to be determined by CBC.

Yeah, that's a big IF. I personally think it's a poorly planned contest if they have to rely on changing conditions. I could have seen this for season 4 when it was still being filmed, but nothing's definite about a 5th season. It's as if to say, "Hey guys, you can be on your favourite show! But, we're not certain if the show will continue beyond this season." I've never seen a contest that promised something so iffy.

15 seconds.

Do you know hoe many asses i could grab in 15 seconds?

I wonder if the footage would still be usable?

Maybe I have been watching too much of The West Wing lately, but it almost sounds like McCain is trying to push for season 5 in the background because he wants the American demographic who watches this show to vote for him or his party.

On a totally different note, this little video popped up on my radar today and I thought it was interesting enough that I want to share with you guys who love this show as much as I do.

Hah, except that there's no connection between McCain the presidential candidate and the McCain Foods, besides which McCain Foods is a Canadian company :)

Sigh.

No Nazis?

Nothing seems too earth-shocking from those alternate proposals.

I tried to introduce a friend to Being Erica, a gay friend who lives for sicfi, perhaps the ideal demographic, but his response was "Oestrogen was bleeding out of my ears."

I have no idea why this show is ideal for the gay demographic, but what works is I tell my friends to stick with the show for the entire season before deciding. The season 1 finale "Leo" usually hits them in the gut.

Silly.

Gay people don't watch scripted TV.

(Digging a hole.)

The scifi obsession is the larger component of his character, that I thought a show about time travel might be in his interest, you should see his dvd collectiopn, all 5 seasons of Quantum Leap which is practically the same show, and besides, he's still on dial up so I give him disks full of random this and that which hasn't begun airing down here yet, and why he had to judge Being Erica from seeing episode 4 of season 4 for his first contact.

Listening to his rant about the badness of being Erica, I realised that the show might not actually be watchable to many men if that figuraticve "he" doesn't feel a craving to navigate the inside thighs of Erin karpluk with his ears.

Oh.

Look.

It's China.

That's your mistake right there. This is a show with a story arc, anyone jumping into the middle is bound to get lost. I had a friend who went and watch the latest episode she could find and she told me she was totally lost and had no idea what was going on. Then she went back and started from the beginning. Now she's in love with the show.

Eh, I'm straight and I love the show, both for its strong and well-rounded characters and interesting storylines, and I find the show delivers more than most sci-fi shows would dream of. I feel it's more about the discovery of the characters and their journey. I think the best episode to start with would be the pilot and then jumping to the episode with the Britney Spears song used as a poem. The professor in that episode killed me in his delivery. It was brilliant. He was so intense, and the whole episode had quite a depth to it that I found remarkable. Is that the professor they're referring to in the article as potential love interest though?
