2011 NFL Season - A New Game

Did you know that in two and a half years in Denver, an Orton-led Broncos offense has never trailed at halftime and come back to win? They've already done it 4 times in 8 Tebow starts. A ton of credit obviously goes to the defense because if they failed to keep games close, especially these low-scoring affairs, then there's no way the offense gets back in. But how many times over the last 3 seasons has Orton been able to get the offense going and take advantage of the close games? As of right now, Orton is definitely the better QB during the bulk of the game...... but if you need someone to step up and be a hero in the 11th hour, you can't count on Orton to do it.

Tebow still has issues to work out, but he's improving and as long as the defense continues to play the game they've been playing, I'll take my chances with him over Orton any day of the week. And occassionally of Sundays too.

Listening to the post game last night, Tebow is just so damn humble and well spoken it's getting harder to dislike him. He wants to be a role model, wants to do better every practice and every game, and when he talked about building a hospital in the Phillipines as being more important than winning a football game, damn.

And that's just it. The somewhat cynical response to Tebow is actually somewhat understandable. We, the fans, have been "let down" so often by other heroes. But this guy really is sincere and not in an outlandish sort of way like other people of faith in the public. The guy even seems to easily laugh off the whole "Tebowing" schtick.

I let my 7 year old watch the highlights this morning before leaving for school. He's in his first year of playing flag football. When they showed the final touchdown, he asked me, "Daddy, why didn't 33 contain?"
Remember what the book of Proverbs says: "Train up a child in the way that they should go, and when they are older they will not depart from it." ;)

I still don't think he's a long term solution at quarterback, but he does have the heart and fire to compete.
I doubt he is the "long-term" solution, either. But it's been fun so far hasn't it? Okay... so some of these wins are the result of the teams they play....

I heard an interesting bit on the radio about him. I forget who said it, might have been Colin Cowherd.

It basically was that the way he is playing, he is proving everyone right. On one hand, he can't hack it as an NFL QB, on the other, he keeps winning.

I'm glad I'm not John Elway right now.

Agree. In order to seriously compete for the Super Bowl, Tebow will need to be replaced. But whoever replaces him will be expected to win right away and God help him if he is in any way cocky or mouthy or not as "likable" as Tebow. And Elway will get all of the heat.

The Raiders playing Minny today are ripe for an upset, unfortunately. They're banged up -- Darren McFadden, among others, is still out. Minny is coming off a humiliating defeat on national T.V. and are at home.

The Raiders will need to play balls out to come out with a win.

A random thought; I cannot STAND the way Shannon Sharpe talks.

Watching the Lions the last few games it's like one of those time travel movies where the changes appear slowly like someone fading from a photograph. Here it's like watching a promising young team fading back into the old Lions.

Where was this Dolphins team the first half of the season? Granted they're playing a Bills team that's in a downward spiral but they appear to be completely manhandling them with Matt Moore on fire.

They're doing quite well. I was actually afraid during that last drive, until the end zone interception. But yeah, the penalties is something they really need to work on.

Edit: God, that was a close game. That 4th quarter scared the hell out me. But yay, the Raiders are now a lot more solidly in first place than they were before.

I haven't followed too much of the Tebow thing (I turn the channel when they start doing the player puff pieces) but it always rubs me the wrong way when it's comes across like "So, let me tell you of my great deeds...".

I have never heard Tebow brag about anything...

And again, I have not followed it but boy a lot of people must be to know all this great stuff he hasn't been bragging about and to know all these religious beliefs and all that he doesn't talk about.

That might be really unfair to him but being a cynical bastard that's where my mind goes.

WTF is wrong with Tillman on this last SD drive? He got torched a few times. It was like he didn't know where he was supposed to be.

Edit: 2nd SD scoring drive, Tillman victimized a few more times :censored:

2nd Edit: Tillman finally does what he does best, forcing & recovering a fumble.

The fourth quarter of Bears / Chargers has been the funniest fucking thing.

Norv forgot to tell the Chargers to stop trying for Suck for Luck since Indy already has a lock on it. :wtf:

Take away Indy and I'd argue they're the biggest fuckups in the league right now.

after the Bengals/ Ravens game today, I NEVER want to hear the whine baby Ratbird fans to EVER say that the referees are never on their side EVER again!!!!! :vulcan:

Indeed. This is basically the Megatron catch against the Bears ruled to not be a catch last year all over again. The NFL really needs to update that rule.

Well, somebody had to get those calls since the squealers and their fans are enjoying their bye week by falling out of first place.

The best part was Norv doing his very, very best Lovie Smith impression. (For those who don't remember, a season or two against Green Bay, Lovie pulled the exact same call timeout / challenge play / lose challenge and another timeout trick against Green Bay. It was incredible.)

Oh what the fuck DeSean Jackson.

I thought taunting was a deadball foul (i.e., assessed after the completion), but no matter, it was a stupid bonehead thing to do. Seriously, that was the equivalent of a 50 yard penalty.
