Breaking Bad - Season 4

Jesse isn't that stupid. He knows Gus had the gift with him from the very beginning.

Because Gus suspected the cartel would try to keep Jesse in Mexico, and had the gift as Plan B in case Jesse needed rescuing.

Or so Gus will let Jesse think. ;)

I wonder why he didn't put in some kind of poison that he could have preemptively taken an antidote for?
Because that plot twist is hackneyed. Makes him look much more badass if he used some kind of poison that there was no guaranteed antidote for.

Jesse knows that Gus was already at war with the cartel and wanted to be rid of them.

Great episode, great ending.

Wouldn't be surprised if this is Cranston's Emmy submission; that long monologue is gold.

For a second it looked like they had shock-killed Mike, which jolted me.

Then again, even though he's indirectly responsible for Hank getting shot, he's never seemed the least bit remorseful about it.
Well, except for all those times he has.

Hasn't seemed that way to me. He wouldn't even step up to pay Hank's bills until Skyler guilted him into it and concocted the gambling story. You'd think if he actually felt guilty about it he'd have been looking for a way to help Hank with all that drug money he's earned.

I agree. Walt has shown remorse over things but he's kinda always been pretty shitty to Hank considering how nice Hank has always been to him and Walter Jr.

So psyched for tonight's episode. The show has been absolutely superb lately and heading into 11 of 13, that's unlikely to change.

Or that Gus was using Jesse as the sacrificial goat to settle matters with the cartel, which Jesse clearly suspected when he realized he wasn't going to be allowed to leave. At that point, the sequence of events look like Gus put Plan B into motion, to rescue Jesse, because Plan A to mollify the cartel had backfired. But Gus could have gone with Plan C - abandon Jesse to his fate - which would have been far safer than Plan B.

At any rate, the writers can clarify this point. If their intent is to give Jesse a motive to transfer his dogged loyalty from Walt to Gus, then we'll see it. That would also be the reason the writers had them fight, to solidify this character evolution for Jesse and set up a big conflict between the two of them.

HOLY CRAP!

I'm guessing those of you who thought this season was too slow and uneventful are probably regretting saying that right now.

Cranston's performance in tonight's episode was incredible as always. I really feel sorry for Walt and want him come out of this alive somehow.

I knew the situation with Skylar and Ted was going to come to an ugly end and I have to say I'm not sorry about Ted getting killed. He brought it on his own stupid self. I'm just wondering how Skylar is going to handle Ted's death.

I admire Jesse for his refusal to let Gus kill Walt despite Gus's screwing with his head and the crap between him and Walt. But it is because of the crap between him and Walt that Jesse still doesn't want to have anything to do with Walt. I'm hoping that will change over time, hopefully starting next week's episode.

Love the scene between Gus and Walt in the desert. It has to be one of my top favorite scenes involving these two opponents and I'm guessing there will be more to come in the last two episodes of this season.

The ending of this episode really gave me the chills and the feeling that the walls are closing in on the characters to the point that I can almost feel them.

I really wish next week's episode was tomorrow. It looks like Walt is going to take some major action aganist Gus based on the promo of the next episode.

Yeah, this episode definitely gave me chills. The only way to stop this train wreck is to either kill Gus or have Jesse convince Gus that Walt is needed. I love Gus as a character, he's got everything sown up pretty tight. He's near perfect, but while he may be very likable, he's also ruthless. It wasn't until this episode that I started to think that I don't like Gus. Ultimately, Walt and Jessee are the ones I'm rooting for. If Gus kills either one, I won't like him anymore.

I hope that Walt and Jesse can reconcile their differences. It's going to be interesting how this all plays out. While I understand Walt's concern, I wish he wouldn't be so panicy and rash.

I'm glad Ted bit the dust, he's a douche and refused to be reasonable, I agree, he got what he deserved.

"How's Annie?":)

I think Mike is going to die next episode because according to the sypnosis of next week's episode, Jesse gets alarming news and in the promo, Jesse is in the hospital and seems to react badly when Gus's guy try to handle him.

Another great episode. Honestly my only gripe was the death of Ted. They basically got what they wanted out of him and used a deus ex machina to get rid of him the moment he wasn't needed any more. I would have preferred Skylar or even Walter having to make a real decision about what to do with him. As soon as he tripped the first time I thought, "oh god, they're just going to have him trip and die aren't they?" I'm glad at least Skylar called Saul to get his goons to scare Ted, but I would have preferred a harder choice than that, or at least to have Ted still be around as some kind of threat.

The promo for next week looks amazing. Walt's going Rambo here, I'm guessing to kill off Gus and maybe setting up a final showdown between Walt and Jesse for the final season.

No regrets at all. Things were slow, but they've certainly kicked into high gear now. What an episode. I laughed when Ted tripped. I don't mind it when the show does off-the-wall stuff like that. Didn't know he was dead at the time though. What was his problem anyway? He really annoyed me with his refusal to pay. Seriously.

Looks like we're headed for one hell of a cliffhanger.

It was hilarious, the way they offed Ted.

I wondered exactly how much money Walt had, but I guess between buying the car wash, paying Hank's medical bills, maintaining two residences, and Skyler paying Ted off, they weren't left with a whole lot. And now Walt's source of income is just plain gone. No wonder he flipped his shit.

Awesome episode!

Another great episode. The proverbial shit is officially hitting the fan now! And totally didn't expect the way in which Ted would meet his demise. Bill Burr was awesome in that scene too!

Walt's maniacal laugh for some reason reminded me of the Joker.

I think one of the purposes of Season 4 is to tear down Walt so they can build him back up again for the next stage in his growth from Mr. Chips to Scarface. Bryan Cranston says that by the end of the season, Walt reaches a 7 if it was a scale of 1 to 10, 1 being Mr. Chips and 10 being Scarface. I think all this time he has been beaten, outmatched, and losing control of his life are meant to make him stronger as a person.

To be honest, if there's one plot element here I'm not really sure is a logical development, Walt and Gus' relationship disintegrated largely because of disagreements over Jesse, so now Gus is going to off Walt and...replace him with Jesse, the guy who was the problem to begin with.

I was idly wondering if they could just withdraw Ted's money from his account and use that, since nobody knows he's dead and that cheque presumably won't arrive for a few more days, but you can't withdraw that large a sum on that short notice, I don't believe.

At this point, I'm pretty sure Gus is going to have to die by the end of the season.
