I wish Harlan Ellison would just die already...

I found a pretty nice copy of Strange Wine at a thrift store the other day. I snatched it up and smiled all the way home.

That was my introduction to his work. Still one of my favorite collections.

FWIW, Mr. Ellison won this year's Nebula for short fiction (well, technically he tied with another writer and both received awards) for his story "How Interesting: A Tiny Man."

I actually almost wrote the same thing, but decided better of it, because it was just a knee-jerk reaction to an attack by a creator I don't like upon a creator I do. However, it is better and far wiser to withhold judgment in such matters unless one is well-informed on the facts and the law. I mean, I haven't even read the pleadings, let alone "Repent Harlequin."

P.S. "The City on the Edge of Forever" sucked.

No you suck you big doody head ;)

All of this talk about Ellison is making me want to try something he wrote. Any recommendations?

^^^Try a collection called "Approaching Oblivion." It and "Strange Wine" are my favorite collections of his work.

I know.

EDIT: Opps, there have been more responses while I typed, this response is to Sir Rhosis.
Hmm, I found those for the Nook from a company called ereads, does anyone know how legit they are? I try to just stick to legitimate publishing companies.

^^^I know nothing of ereads, or any other type of online book downloading sites. I'm an old fashioned dead tree book guy, myself. Sorry.

I have two recommendations:

1) The book The Essential Harlan Ellison - a career-spanning collection of some of his best stories and essays. Will send you looking for more.

2) The DVD of the documentary Dreams With Sharp Teeth - a very interesting look at the man that I find myself re-watching about two or three times a year.

And to the OP: you are a classless, uninformed moron. Grow up.

Yeah, wishing the man dead is taking things a little far. He may do some things we don't like, but I don't think he's done anything to deserve death wishes.

I want Ellison and Ray Bradbury to fight it out to the death in the Thunder-dome for the title "Bitterest Old Man in the Universe". I suggest the use of the soundtrack from "Amok time" as the theme.

No but he doesn't deserve any respect either. "Repent, Harlequin" is my favorite Ellison story but come on. All the similarities to "In Time" are superficial. Maybe the Jack London estate can sue Ellison for stealing the idea of an evil corporation.

When I was informed of all the facts, the case involving The Terminator turned out to sound like a real slam dunk for Mr. Ellison. This Monday morning armchair jurist, to mix my metaphors, will wait to see what all the facts are, and how it turns out, before formulating an opinion on the merits of the issues. Thank you very much.

Of course. But from what I've read they didn't take an idea and put a spin on it. They just outright stole from Ellison with little variation at all.
