Anyone else notice this little joke..?

Im guessing yes.

In 'A Good Man Goes to War', the Silurian woman and her housekeeper are talking during the attack. The housekeeper tells the silurian: 'I dont know why I stay with you'.

The silurian then whips her tongue across the room to knock out a guard, and looks at her housekeeper with a slightly lascivious expression.

Anyone else laugh? Sorry if this has been pointed out many times before.

Yes we talked about the Lesbian Lizard alot when that episode aired. :)

Why would the presence of a lesbian lizard mean it's not a children's show?

I was refering to the joke. Obviously this isnt something children are going to understand, so Im not getting all reactionary or anything. Ive just been wondering in general if its still a show for children; there seems to have been a general shift in tone.

I doubt children understood the hidden meaning behind all the referances to "dancing" in the RTD era. The show was still considered a children's show baack then, and it still is now.

That shift in tone happened in 2005. Jack Harkness was a walking talking shift in tone.

It was a joke for grown ups. Not even a particularly scandalous one.

So, yes, it's still a show for kids.

Eh...Pixar and Disney movies have been sliding in a lot of adult jokes the alst few years, and they are "Children's Movies" It's what children's shows/movies do to appeal to the parents of children, they throw in some humor only adults will get, and isn't neccessarily appropriate for children to catch

It is a 'Family' show not a kids show, a kids show is SJA. By 'Family' that means that things are done in a way where older people will 'get' some things and children won't pick those things up. Conversly, there are things that are childish, meant for childdren, but adults won't care for them.

I agree with this.

Doctor Who is definitely not a kid's show. If it was, it wouldn't be watched by so many adults.

This is true, but dont you think that over the years its become more for older people, and less for younger people?

I must admit, I didn't really pick up on it until my mate pointed it out later that night in the pub. Weird thing is, I have a filthy mind!

Along similar lines, Rory causing a disaster by dropping a thermocoupling (during the Red Nose Day telethon mini-episode "Space") because he was looking up Amy's skirt through the console platform's glass floor seemed an adult theme and yet a very 3rd grade boy concept at the same time!..... That wasn't so subtle!

I did catch the tongue thing with the Victorian gals, but I thought it was subtle enough to drift over the little one's heads and reach the intended target adult part of the audience.

Actually, YES, I think it has. But not because of cunnilingus jokes, but because of the plotting might be more complicated than a 6 year old would be interested in.

I think its symptomatic of a general shift in tone.

People have mentioned Jack Harkness, and, while my memory of those first episodes of kind of hazy, he never seemed overtly sexual. I mean... he did... obviously, but it seemed more PG, like it was putting a bisexual character in because it fit, and to make a little progression in TV. But there wasnt really anything lascivious about the character, it was more fun than that.

And if you really needed evidence that its not just for kids anymore, you need look no farther than the 'The Graduate' references during Rivers last few appearances.

I'm a lesbian and didn't notice that joke the first time through. I figure that's subtle enough.

Didn't notice it either.

I guess some of us don't have our minds in the gutter. ;)

Both RTD and Moffat repeatedly refer to Doctor Who as a children's show.
