The way i see it is burst damage is more advantageous than firing arc. As a Defiant you should be "bobbing and weaving" so to speak when you engage enemies. As a cruiser it's fine to just orbit your target and spank away at them with beams, etc, but as a Defiant you need to do strafing runs...it's the main reason why i play the Defiant, it's fun to move and run around your targets. If you've watched the DS9 episodes where the Defiant engages targets it's very much this kind of strafe and burst damage type of play style. Of course you're free to play however you want but the Defiant is optimized for this type of battle strategy.

Keep in mind that the enemy is regenerating shields while you're turning back for another run. The quicker you get energy flowing back on target, the less shield is in place for your next cannon run.

Edit: also keep in mind the Defiant had beams as well as cannons.

Well the Defiant in the game is clearly not canon Defiant unfortunately. It's not even a "real cloak". I would really love to see the Achilles class starship in the game. Actually if i could pick any ship to captain in the Star Trek Universe i'd pick the Achilles class.

With or without the micro quantum torpedos?

With of course! :techman:

Anyone that wants tips, help, etc, i'm more than happy to help.

I play during Asia Pacific hours however...

I splurged and bought up the Mk XI Phaser Turrets, a bit higher DPS and Phaser dmg but barely noticeable.

Science consoles, quantum torpedoes, and better tactical consoles, and powers to improve my gameplay, I should be ok with in few weeks or month or two.

After all you guys all've been playing for months on end.

Oh, right. Now I feel silly for not realizing that was what you meant.

You can't see the deflector in that screenshot because I'm using the saucer section from the Gallant-class variation. If you look at the image here, you'll be able to see it.

Really?

Got it originally with the code.
So I wasn't aware it's a freebie now from C-Store.
Always only showed up as purchased. ;)

Yeah I think this was likely done becuase they didn't use different codes to get it and as a result it spread through out the internet and thus there would have been no point to charging for it.

Perfect World's CFO stated in an earnings call on Monday that STO will be adopting the "free-to-play" model by the end of the year.

And also Star Trek Online, after the acquisition, in fact Cryptic is working on the free-to-play model for Star Trek Online. This is going to be launched by the end of this year as well.
You can see the transcript for yourself here, and I found it via this thread on the STO official forums. Another user over there also pointed out that one can listen to the audio of the conference call here.

^^^Yeap its going F2P.....funny thing is the forums over there have been abuzz with this all week......now is just starting to leak out.....Exec producer of Cryptic Dan Stahl has basically stated that more info will follow real soon in one of the threads over there.

Re: Star Trek Online goes "Free to Play"

Re: Star Trek Online goes "Free to Play"

I think that such a MAJOR move on the ONLY online MMORPG game of the Star Trek franchise deserves its own thread, not a few remarks on an already huge thread that is a catch-all-subjects related to STO.

I would not go as far as suggesting to sticky it, but I do honestly believe that it does deserve having its own thread.
