Is Hurricane Irene Coming your Way?

Flavius

Vice Admiral
Admiral
Unfortunately, our house is going to see some hurricane action. I have seen some severe weather in New England in the past, but was never in a hurricane.

What about you? My wife took a lot of pictures of our back yard that we just finished landscaping and told me to buy some buckets and batteries.

How do you guys prepare?

I live in central Virginia...so we shall see. :sigh: I don't prepare...we have an emergency light/radio thing but that is really it.

I'm not sure. I live in Los Angeles, but am due to fly home to Washington DC next week for my best friend's wedding up in Princeton, NJ. I'm sincerely hoping that any hurricane activity will subside for at least the time I'll be in the air.

I am right in the path in VA. Getting ready now. Plan to leave if given the evacuation order. My brothers group home is evacuating him to Richmond. Soon my place will be swamped with 110mph winds and floods. Preparing it for the worst but am afraid what i will come back to.

This thing is going to be huge. All the way up the coast, one in a century thing.

Be safe, everypony! Take proper precautions, and don't be too proud to run like hell if it looks like it's going to be really bad!

I'm pretty sure I'm far enough west ... I live 45 miles north of Syracuse N.Y. However, my brother lives in Manhattan and I have a cousin living in North Carolina. Also have friends living in or near D.C.

Yep. Looking forward to it. I love hurricanes, they're fun, as long as you're in a solid house well above the flood zone, which I am. Gotta beer up, though. :techman:

I live on Long Island so this weekend should be fun. I live in the middle of it, though, so I won't see any flooding. I'll get some nasty winds, though, and it's possible some trees will come on down- hopefully not on my house.

I think I'll be OK. Building looks sturdy. Definitely some drainage problems, but I don't think flooding ones. No beer, but plenty of liquor. If I don't lose power, I'll be good. However, I'll definitely be looking forward to sunshine.

I guess this will be my first hurricane. I live far enough inland I don't have any flooding to worry about, so it should just be a nice storm.

I live in Maine, so I'll probably get some of it up here, but probably not as bad as it likely will get farther south. I spent three years in Virginia, though, so I won't be going into this without some experience.

It's sort of coming towards DC. Good thing too because the earthquake is quickly becoming old news.

Stay safe, everyone.

I really hope it all works out for you. And congrats to your friend! :)

^^ I wish I'd been there for the SNOWMYGOD Snowmageddon a few years ago. Ironically, my travel that year had me there right in after the first big blizzard and just before the second one hit.
