Goldeneye: Reloaded

Whofan

Fleet Captain
Rumor is that this is an HD version (X360 and PS3) of the Wii update of the Nintendo 64 game. Hopefully, it turns out better than the QOS game and Blood Stone, and hopefully it's not something akin to Goldeneye: Rogue Agent...apparentally all will be revealed at comic-con.

That would be fantastic. I played both the QoS and BloodStone games on 360, and they were OK, but I've heard excellent things about the Goldeneye remake.

Also just very curious to see Daniel Craig playing Bond in the story from Goldeneye!

GoldenEye on Wii was ... interesting. There were a lot of nice ideas in it, but I could never shake the feeling that I was playing a re-skinned Call of Duty.

Well, I could say something along the lines of "welcome to the FPS genre post 2009", but that would be utterly cynical and uncalled for. ;)

Indeed. Goldeneye on wii was alright I guess. It had moments of greatness I suppose, but in the end fell kinda flat. Infact, I found parts of the game rather boring. In the end I would have rather had just a straight updating of the original game. Oh how I missed snipping guards from afar in that snowy, wide open "satellite control station" level. The new game didn't have any momments like that for me at all. Here's hoping this Goldeneye: Reloaded recreates those awesome moments and set pieces.

Yeah, the Wii remake was good, although the end was really hard, even on easy, to the point that I just gave up. I think part of the problem was the game mechanics. FPS's on the Wii have always been slow in terms of reaction time, even when turning up the sensitivity, making the game rather clunky in terms of controls. So, you end up working against the limitations of the Wii itself. Not to mention that I found I'd often lose control and die due to my pointer leaving the zone even while directly pointing at it, which made things harder especially in a critical situation.

I gotta say that I didn't even bother trying to use the standard Wii remote and nunchuk. I picked it up with the golden classic controller pro and picked up another black one with the hope of playing some good old fashioned goldeneye multiplayer with the misses. Sadly we were VERY disappointed with the multiplayer.

Oh, I got the version with the classic controller too, however I still found the game too clunky. There was something about it that didn't feel comfortable when playing on a classic controller for some reason.

But yeah, Multiplayer was disappointing. I only played it once with my Brother and we both found the levels a bit too large. Even the night club, which I thought should be small was way too large.

Yeah, I have to agree on the Wii version of Goldeneye. It was fine for what it was, but a little clunky, and nowhere near as memorable as the original. Hell, I honestly don't think it was even as good a Bond game as something like Everything or Nothing was.

As a Wii game, it was very good. Probably one of the best Wii games out there, actually. As I had never actually played the original, I thought it was good for what it was, but at the same time, I can't help but think that people would have been even more disappointed if they had just kept things as they were in the original game.

PS3 would be fantastic, a PC title would obviously be amazing. But i'm also hoping for a 3DS release. Goldeneye for DS was enjoyable, but not memorable. Even as a digital only release, it has got to have a home on the 3DS.

Nope! Sorry! But if they are throwing money at actually remaking Goldeneye 007 into an HD/current generation game, then I want all the effort put into that! That is simply taking the original game, level design and all, and ramping it up for 360/PS3. I don't want them having to devote extra time and money into a weakened Nintendo port. I'm sorry, but Nintendo had its turn with a redone Goldeneye and we saw how that turned out. Let them port that version over to 3DS and let the developers try and make a decent HD remake of the original game. Hell, Nintendo can have the HD version when they put out the Wii U next year.

Why is Rare so unwillingly to compromise? All that would need to be done is replace the models and textures of those of higher quality. The gameplay doesn't need to be touched at all. It is the gameplay that made Goldeneye what it is!

Have you even tried to play GoldenEye 007 recently? It plays like ass.

Anyway, the upgraded game exists. Microsoft had Rare develop it throughout 2007 for an intended 2008 launch on Xbox Live Arcade. The problem is the complicated licensing rights: Microsoft, through Rare, owns the actual design of GoldenEye 007. Nintendo, because the game was developed second-party, holds the actual publishing rights to that particular game and its design. And Activision holds the Bond license.

So, it was essentially finished and ready for release. Activision was willing to let the game go ahead after Microsoft offered a pile of money. And despite Microsoft offering a similar pile of money and even making the concession to allow Nintendo to publish the remake on the Virtual Console a few months after its XBLA release, Nintendo finally said that it would in no way allow the publication of Microsoft's GoldenEye 007.

Eh, I have trouble blaming Nintendo over this one. I mean, Goldeneye was the game on the N64. So long as they're still making console's, that's a property they're going to want to keep associated with their brand.

It's hard to keep it associated with their brand when they aren't releasing it!

Well, I still associate Sonic the Hedgehog with Sega Genesis. I think anyone who doesn't is probably fairly young, the same kind of people that don't give half a shit about Goldeneye.

I actually have a copy of the original Goldeneye on the way. I never had an N64 in my younger days, but my friends did. I didn't love the game. I always got my ass kicked to cheap tricks pilfered from Nintendo Power. The diagonal running bullshit especially. Wtf is that? Being the sucker that I am I didn't do any 'screen-watching' to figure out what was going on. To someone playing Quakeworld or whatever at the time, with their own monitor, that probably had 16x the pixels that you get in goldeneye 4-player, Goldeneye just wasn't very impressive.

But I'll give it a chance in single player. Timby, you say it plays like ass today, I hope not. I mean, there's no excuse. I can load up Doom today and it still plays like butter, and is just a lot of fun.

Well, no offense, but they did. They released Goldeneye Wii. That was about the extent of what could be done. They decided to re-release an updated version of the game for their latest console.

And I assume Timby means the original N64 game doesn't play as smoothly as one would expect when we're used to more modern games feeling smoother.
