Is Lady Gaga as big as the Beatles?

Style mostly. Black Metal often employs more theatricality than Death Metal - corpse paint, leather outfits, grandiose set design in music videos...etc. Black Metal bands tend to focus their music on more supernatural and religious themes (mostly anti-Christianity, especially when it comes to bands from places like Norway). It also differs in vocal style, with Black Metal using higher pitched, screeching vocals, as opposed to the deeper, growling vocals used by Death Metal bands.

This thread: tl;dr

This "Lady Gaga": I have no idea what it is! -From what I've heard, it's to do with pop-music, but if it's a person or a band, if it is from 'look-at-me'-TV, the internet or invented by some producer... I really don't know.

I thought the crux of PTK's objection was that "legend" is something that takes decades to attain and can't be judged after 3 years no matter how popular or wonderful someone is.

But in that case her position has absolutely nothing to do with the premise of the thread, since it's a present-tense "how big is she?" and not a future-tense "how big will she become?" (which no one can know anyway.)

Though in fairness, is it possible to compare anyone to the Beatles without asking how big they'll eventually become?

Sure. You'd just have to look at, say, how big the Beatles were at this point in their careers (about 3 years in) and compare to where Lady Gaga is now. But you'd also have to account for the vast changes in the music industry since then, too, in order to have a viable comparison.

Frankly, it sounds like a lot of work and I'm just not invested enough. :p That doesn't mean it isn't possible, though.

You know there's this thing called the Internet where you can look up stuff like that? :p

Yeah :rommie: (and thanks for not presenting me with a lmgtfy :bolian: ) - If I were interested I would do just that!

Then... why are you in this thread? Sorry, this is just one of my pet peeves. "I don't know what this thread is about and I'm not interested enough to find out, but I just wanted to pop in and let everyone know that."

I really should have done the lmgtfy. I was very tempted to. ;)

Because this is Misc. and here we chat about all sorts of things; both those that interest us and those that don't. I just wanted to register my ignorance of the subject at hand before starting the process of reading the thread. Sometimes I start by reading the thread, sometimes I start by posting in it.

ETA: Oh, and sometimes the content of a thread has nothing to do with the title -sometimes the threads with the most uninteresting subjects are the ones with the most interesting posts.

Apparently alot of people. :rommie: Have you not been here before? :p

I mainly hang out in TNZ, where we're more likely to share our feelings openly.

I mean the board as a whole...you have people who will talk about what they are not interested in all the time...I am not interested in Harry Potter and will not see this movie, I am not interested in VOY and will not watch the show, I am not interested in My Little Pony...then why are they posting in the thread? :vulcan: :guffaw:

If I am not interested in something...I am not going to waste my time posting in a thread or forum where people who are interested in the topic.

Surely one of our mathematical geniuses could formulate such an equation. And then they could puzzle out Psychohistory for a follow up. :D
