I'd be very happy to be an "apatheist" but a catholic school killed that for me.
Make it two of us.

My catholic school was headed by 2 socialists.
If that was in Italy, that's not as uncommon as it sounds to foreigners. A lot of Catholics here lean toward socialism or at least social market. The Christian Left, or as I like to call them, Cattocommunists. ;)

Well, I exist because my parents reproduced.
Visualize it! Visualize it now!

"Cool story bro" is exactly what Jesus would get if he came back now. He's apparently aware of this.

I don't believe any position other than 6 makes any sense (including number 7).

It's impossible to rule it out 100%,but there's also no reason at all to believe there IS a God, so better off staying at 99.9999999% sure and going about your business as usual.

Option 7 is just about as big a religious leap as option 1, and with exactly the same level of proof. Anything less than 6 is just wishful thinking and wanting something to be true despite a severe lack of evidence...
Meh. I'm far too lazy to be a dedicated atheist, yet too much of a skeptic to be truly agnostic. Put me down for a 5; I'm also too lazy to care whether or not it makes sense to you. :p

I'm not on your chart, btw. I'm an Evangelical Apathetic Agnostic: I don't know, and I don't care, and I feel pretty strongly that no one else should claim to know or really care, either.
I like this one, though I'm probably too apathetic to feel that strongly about what everyone else should claim to know or care about.

Mischievous reptile.

Wow, this thread grew fast since this morning. Damn sleep. :shifty:

It's like a wormhole from one side to the other. I took that motherfucker.

I was thinking about starting a thread about that very thing John, using you as my prize exhibit. Would you mind?

Sure. :D

I am an atheist. I do not believe in any god or gods.

When did that happen? Perhaps I'm remembering incorrectly but I thought you were a believer when I first came to this BBS. If I'm wrong, my apologies; no offence meant.

I was when I first joined, but about two years ago, that all changed.

I am an Idontcareist. God exists or not, who cares. The only influence religion has on my and everyone's life are hours of time wasted on pointless philosophical discussions, and terrorists at every corner trying to blow shit up.

I think he used fairies in the garden in his quote.
Dawkins was probably quoting his late friend Douglas Adams on the subject:
"Isn't it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too?".

I chose 6, though I suppose that I'm somewhere on the 6 to 7 scale. If I end up at the pearly gates after I die, I'll be very surprised.

These types of disucions have been going on way before anyone in this forum was even born and yet never come to a conclusion but I wanted to add something to the discussion about science and religion and see where it takes us.

Science can never give what religion gives to people who believe in God, its called faith (Mr sherlock) science is about rational observation and logic to come up with a certain answer - God is intangible because it is all about faith and science can never really provide that for people, which is why I think religion will be here for forever, you can never get rid of it because there is nothing to substitute it with, that is the essential reason why people believe in God over science it provide them with a meaning of existence, I am here to serve God, I have a purpose, God made me who i am etc etc etc - what does science say your a product of random mutation

Just like to point out I am an Atheist but I KIND OF understand why people go to religion even though it is utter madness at times

Maybe Someday this argument will be void because people will use logic rather than quotes from an ancient book (no pointing fingers)

that is my view of science and religion :)

May I ask why? I ask this out of a very personal interest and not merely out of nosey curiosity. I fully understand if you don't wish to get into it here :)

Oh, these folks have probably heard it a hundred times. I'll send you a PM. :)

I'll be generous and call myself a 6. I suppose there's a non-zero possibility that everything we know is wrong and there's a paradoxical reality beyond this one. It's also possible that I'm an intelligent plant living on Venus and dreaming all this during hibernation season. In fact, the latter is a lot closer on the probability curve than the former. But I wouldn't seriously consider the possibility of either.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Godzilla will never hurt my Saviour. I mean, Godzilla isn't even real.
There's a word for that.
