vampires

I missed the first 10 episodes when they aired, and near the end of the hiatus, they showed a week long marathon 2 episodes a night of those first 10. I thought it was worth watching, wasn't totally hooked, but, definitely worth wasting time on and I really was intrigued with what they might do with Bonnie and I've always been a fan of Jasmine Guy's. Then a week or two later, they showed Eps 11-20 and I was hooked by the end of S1, and S2 stepped it up a bit more.

is there a list of lee's dracula movie's? and are they in any partiicular order?

The continuity is a bit loose, but, just off the top of my head.

Horror of Dracula
Brides of Dracula (no Lee, only Cushing)
Dracula, Prince of Darkness
Dracula Has Risen from the Grave
Taste the Blood of Dracula
Scars of Dracula
Dracula AD. 1972
The Satanic Rites of Dracula

I'm pretty sure that's the right sequence. Brides is probably my favorite of the bunch, even though Dracula doesn't actually appear in it. (Dr. Van Helsing goes after one of Dracula's disciples--because Lee wasn't available!)

*looks at shelf* Yup thats the correct sequence, the first three Lee movies are more or less the best. Brides of Dracula is indeed awesome and a welcome return for Peter Cushing, it was apparently based more off of Carmilla than Dracula.

The next two are all right I suppose, then AD 1972 reboots the series by having a new continiuty throw out the old one in its opening sequence. The 7 Golden Vampires, if not for Cushing, would have been a standalone. Rites, well...just ignore it.

Not quite. THE VAMPIRE LOVERS starring Cushing is the one based on "Carmilla."

It's part of a separate cycle of "Karnstein" vampire movies that includes:

The Vampire Lovers
Lust for a Vampire
Twins of Evil

If Brides was based on "Carmilla," there would be a lot more lesbianism in it! :)

Those are indeed the Carmilla trilogy, but I think the Countess sub-plot was taken from Carmilla, the three birdes from Dracula and several other elements from Dracula's Guest. The film is a mish-mash of several different sub-plots, but ironically holds together better than the films from one simpler source.

Hmm. I don't really see "Carmilla" in BRIDES, but, yeah, that's a great movie and Cushing is really good in it. There are so many good scenes, like the bit where the madwoman coaxes a newly-risen Bride out of her grave, the whole bit with the holy water and the red-hot poker (which I wince just thinking about), and the opening scenes with Baron Meinster chained up in his castle . . .

I dare anyone to watch the poker scene and not wince, Cushing makes it look just a little too real.

The American version is actually quite a spooky film in its own right.

Has anyone mentioned NEAR DARK yet? That's far and away the best vampire movie of the eighties. Directed by Kathryn Bigelow, who later won an Oscar for THE HURT LOCKER.

Let Me In was all right, even though many of the best scenes were lifted wholesale from the original. Though to be honest I thought they both have their problems, but Let The Right One In was better.

No one mentioned "Let the Right On In" yet???

*Swedish pride hurt*

:p

I bought and loved the Americanised version, which means the Swedish one will probably be even better, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

great vampire week in comics this week we got coming out:

True blood: tainted love #5
american vampire #16
angel the wolf, the ram and the heart (IDW)
angel omnibus (dark horse)
