When is this hipster craze going to go away

It apparently started in 1999 in New York. For the past 11 years I've had to put up lame indie faux cockney rock, The Strokes, post punk revivalism and really unaesthetically appealing fashions. This is my generation and I feel culturally alienated from it. My theory of cultural trends is that they usually have a decade long life cycle in terms of defining the zeitgeist, so bad synth pop lasted roughly from 1980-1990, heavy lead guitar rock from 1966-1976. However this awful hipster music and culture shows no signs of abating and its been 11 years now! I think cultural trends definately oscillate, for example I think pop culture in the 90s was actually better, grunge was a preferable culture to this.

The words "hip replacement" sprang to mind when thinking about fashion trends that carry on for a very long time.

The only thing that I don't like about this "So-Called" hipster craze is the holier than thou attitude some people have on the internet when it comes to music. I've tried listening to some of the more "Popular" indie music that's out there (Pretty much any album that makes best of lists on sites like Pitchfork and various individuals, and for some reason I just can't get into it.

I think the best example was the Animal Collective Psychedelic (Marriewether Post Pavilion I believe it's called) album that came out a few years ago. I listened to some of it, and I just didn't like the sound at all, didn't think it was music and felt like I just "Didn't get it". Maybe in time I will, and maybe I am missing something, but I didn't think it was the best album that came out that year even though it was widely regarded as such.

Want to make hipsters go away?

Easy: join them.

Once hipsters realize that hipsterism is mainstream and commercial, they'll drop it, and look for something else.

La Rochefoucauld said that "Those who obstinately oppose the most widely-held opinions more often do so because of pride rather than lack of intelligence. They find the best places in the right set already taken, and do not want any of the back seats."

Something similar is true of tastes in clothes and music. The value of something like hipsterism is inversely proportional to its popularity.

I'm more concerned about the current fashion for throat beards - either drop the weight and gain a jawline or grow the real thing.

When I was in court for my clinical's client a couple of months ago, a couple of colleagues of mine were representing a real trade show of modern neckbeard technology.

I'd say you have to question the judgment of a man willing to wear a throat ponytail to a domestic violence trial, but maybe it's a shockingly good bluff: "Who the fuck would consent to sleep next to this?"

Anyway, has the OP seen what hipster girls look like? Why would you want to do away with 90 pound women with cool haircuts and low standards, you monster?

I think hipsterdom has been mainstream since 2005 with bands like Franz Ferdinand, The Futureheads, Bloc Party, Jack Panache. And everyone wears skinny jeans, which look stupid imo.

I look pretty good in mine as long as I stay below 168.

I think if you are under 30 it's ok, but once past that point it looks a bit like a desperate attempt to be "down with the kidz", same with weird haircuts.

Get off my lawn, damned kids!!! :ouch:

Anyway, being a fan of Scott Pilgrim I can't say anything against hipsters, even if I'm not one myself.

I would tell you when the hipster craze will end but it's a pretty obscure date, you've probably never heard of it.

i don't even know what the frag a 'hipster' is...

i thought they were those stupid trousers which don't come up to your waist properly, which i hate with a fiery passion.
