Anti British and Anti French views

You don't even use ;... Maybe tis you who needs to brush up on their English language? (But then, hardily anyone uses ; anymore.)

No I don't and no they don't.

Anyway, prove that you're from England and from our "great" capital London.

I speak English, but then there are many classes of English, I should remember to be well spoken and use
"these"
properly.

You use an approximation of English and you come across as a "foreigner" who tries to use it but is lacking.

If that's the case, so be it, but this charade should really end as you're not going to make any "friends" on here the longer you continue it.

<ridiculous generalization based on personal experience>

When I studied in Bologna (Italy) there were lots of international students.

The French students were the awesome guys and girls who were fun to talk to.
They were all nice, polite, well educated and were nice enough to join me in those long hours in the little Trattorie (small restaurants, few but good meals, good wine) of the city where you can discuss philosophy, politics and the meaning of life until 5am and then go out to get breakfast in some other place.

The English students were loudmouths who only cared about getting drunk, doing drugs and having random sex with everybody everywhere. I'm glad they were usually too drugged/drunk to cause more problems.

Bottom line: I prefered the French.
(I've also been to both France and Great Britain and tbh I haven't made any negative experiences in either of them. There are nice people and idiots in every country.)

And every time I see you use speechmarks "" on the same line makes me want to gouge my eyes out. :)

I can tick two of those three off for when I was a student then :p

Nice come back.

So, where in London are you then?

Britain has its positives and negatives. But the thing that annoys me most is this weird idea many there have that miles, pints and pounds are somehow a part of their culture. No, culture has absolutely nothing to do with the measurement system you use to weigh your oranges and if you think it does then perhaps it belies how weak the unifying culture of the British peoples is.

France has its positives and negatives too. But the thing that annoys me most is the refusal to accept that the English language "won". Yes, you have a lovely language, but every year at the Eurovision all the other countries agree to vote in English but the French still vote in French. Us Irish have more reasons to hate the British than you do, but we still gave in on the language issue.

But at the end of the day, can't we all just get along and agree that the Americans are the real assholes? They act all superior just because they have a better everything. But there's one thing they don't have; nudity on public television! Beat that, America!

The French just let the Nazis march in on their country without so much as putting up a fight or firing off a shot. Because of those actions, or in-actions, that pretty much defines the true nature, character, and mentality of the French, period.
The French persevered for 4 years while one of the most dehumanising types of warfare raged within their own country. Until your country proves itself to have the same sort of mettle, you have no right to call them cowards.

I for one, like Americans, so, no, we can't agree, as serious or not as that was, I do hate people who think they're cool all because they hate America... Hating America doesn't make you cool.

I met up with Rhubarbenodron last weak, nice lady, from Germany, I showed her around London (actually the same day Obama was in town.) - She has a funny way of complimenting people, it's humour, but, her compliment is...

"Are you sure you're not part German?"

I'm like...
"I'm sure."

She's like.
"Well you was on time."

I thought that was sweet, but she explained that, that was just a compliment she paid me, loverly lady. :)

I REALLY GENUINELY love America...so glad I'm cool  But...I love Europe too.

The question is not about "wining" or "losing". We know that English is the dominant language, of course. But we don't see our language the way you anglophones see your language. We don't see the French language as a tool to communicate, for us, it's a monument, a piece of art and a very important part of our identity (the language is what united us as a nation). It's not a question of antagonism.

Speaking of Manchester, before I met my wife, I once dated a very lovely Englishwoman from Manchester, England. Even though there were very little things we had in common, she was still an extraordinary and astounding woman. I hope she is well in Bermuda(her current residence).

All that aside, concerning the French, I don't know how else to describe their actions concerning the Nazi invasion. They could have at least resisted and fought back against that demented psychopath Adolf Hitler and his army of butchers, when they marched into France.

And while I am thinking about it, there is another unpopular description concerning the French. After ten years of fighting against the Communist North Vietnamese and failing in their efforts, the United States Of America and, to some extent, the United Kingdom Of Great Britain, had to go over there and clean up the mess that the French made. Look at the end results made there.

It wasn't just the politicians who were not letting us fight the Vietnam War the way it should have been fought, it was the mess that the French left behind that also escalated matters.

Hence the phrase 'Trust the French to screw up everything.'

As if the foolish actions of both Napoleon and Robespierre hadn't done enough to damage the French reputation.

Plus, it's a beautiful language. Your insistence on this is an amiable quirk and I think also accepted as such by most of us, even if we roll our eyes a bit at it. ;)
I understand the sentiment. I love my language, too, and I'm saddened at how easily some people dismiss it. I also like to hear other languages. I thought it was sad that nearly everyone at the last Grand Prix sang in English. While it#s great to have a lingua franca, I think it's also important to keep our distinctions.

Yeah, I've heard that my ancestors were along the roads encouraging the Wehrmacht but I think they confused the invasion with the Tour de France...ah, silly times !
