Logan's Run (2012)

Wasn't Ryan Gosling just announced for the lead in this?

Yes.

I was surprised they went with somebody that old. Logan's Run seems like the perfect opportunity to cast some young CW-friendly teen idol--especially if they stick with the age limit in the original book.

I was thinking about this movie (Logan's Run) and wondered why a remake was never done. It's old enough to have a remake and it is a great story.

I once read this book that was also called Logan's Run.

I've often wondered how Episodes 2 and 3 would have turned out if Lucas had gone with Leo for Anakin.

I usually defend the ideas of remakes, there's always room to go back and tweak stuff, but I don't see a modern studio going the way LR would need to go to make it really work.

As I've written before, Logan's Run actually strikes me as the perfect candidate for a remake. Although fondly remembered by fans of a certain generation, it's not exactly an untouchable classic that cannot be improved upon. Nostalgia and Jenny Agutter aside, it hasn't aged well and was hardly a faithful adaptation of the book to begin with, so why not give it another go?

Although this remake has been in development so long that I'll believe it when I see it . . . .

The prequels would have still been a disaster. Remember they already had "star" power with some well known names there. The problem was the writing and directing.

As for Logan's Run, why it's been on the back-burner so long I dont know. But given today's political atmosphere given health care and "death panels" in America, I'm sure it's going to leave a mark once released and will be reference time and time again for it's theme.

I never liked the original Logan's Run film... although the basic idea of a perpetual youth culture that kills people off before they hit thirty (or twenty-one) isn't a bad one. As a satire, a dark dystopia, a trenchant criticism, there's probably four or five basic ways you can run with that premise and turn it into something watchable.

So there's a potential a good film could come of a remake, but I'm not exactly holding my breath.

Ryan Gosling was indeed announced as being in talks for the lead. He may have signed since. I had a chance to read Chris McQaurrie's script for when Bryan Singer was attached to direct the film and it was quite good (like most of McQuarrie's scripts). I'm a little excited for this. Alex Garland had been hired in 2010 to write the script. I don't think he's still attached as the writer though.

if anyone was going to play logan I think christian slayter would be cool for the role.

I have no idea who should play Logan. And I confess I don't particularly care, I just want this sonofabitchin' film to get MADE already. :brickwall:
