Are cars considered to be objects of status and wealth (?)

When members of the opposite sex (usually women) are judging a fellow's character and determining whether they are attracted to him or her - does the sort of car the fellow drives influence perception of their attractiveness?

I ask because my car is laid up in the garage at the moment and I am conducting a cost benefit analysis to see whether it is worth getting her back on the road.

At the moment my bicycle is winning

(my bike looks the same as that one)

Cheaper, healthier, less deadly, and far less likely to get me in trouble with the cops.

The car, on the other hand, looks like this

Beautiful piece of machinery but unfortuantely in need of a new engine. If I had the $$$ I would fix it without hesitation but alas Collingwood Nick has to make every dollar count these days.

So - on the basis of judging a person's sexual potency - car or bike?

Personally I would fo for the guy on the bike, mainly because I would consider him 'environmentally friendly', 'penny-wise' and probably reasonably fit which are good attributes in my book.

However if I knew that the only reason that he was rising a bike was because he was silly enough to drive his car through flood waters I might not consider him to be a worthwhile catch at all.

To answer the question in the topic header, yes. Cars are objects of status and wealth.

To answer the sexual potency angle? Having a car > owning a bike.

That is what I thought. It's a shame I can't put a dollar value on this increase in apparent social desireability

Just had a brainwave

Is it the 'owning' of the car or the 'driving' that causes the desireability?

I have the car in my garage as I mentioned. Perhaps I could keep it there and not use it because I am 'environmentally conscious' - not at all because it doesn't have an engine. Best of both worlds perhaps

I don't ride my bike because the tires are flat and I don't have a bike pump.

I don't have a bike pump because gas is too expensive for me to drive to the store to buy one.

It's quite a conundrum.

To prove that you are environmentally conscious you have to be willing to volunteer to hang out the woman's washing on the line so that she doesn't have to use her dryer and other such things.

I can't even remember the last time I saw a clothesline.

Where do motorcycles stand on the cool scale

I suspect - I think it is the case that

bikes < cars <<<<<<<<< motorbikes

Sound about right?
