I've seen a little bit of it, but not too much. I know that there was something called the Dominion War, and I guess that the good guys won. On the other hand, when I met Max Grodenchik I had absolutely nothing show-related to ask him at all.

    I'm open to watching it.

Will you do a rewatch thread? Would it be inappropriate for me to beg?

Sure, I will. Writing about Voyager has really helped me appreciate it a lot more, so I'd do the same for DS9.

I just like keeping my analytical faculties sharp, I guess.

Alright, everyone! You heard the man! Get ready to invade the DS9 boards!

Seriously, Shat, you're going to love it!

I will stop typing now, since I can't stop using exclamation marks!

    DS9 is wonderful, you'll enjoy it. :)

And I just realized that we moved up an episode, sadly I can't seem to remember it.

Hey folks! I've been checking in periodically but not commenting much. Ugh to rl craziness. Anyway, must weigh in and say that we're watching "Engame" tonight (1st watch, can't believe it's over!) and my husband's coworker just brought in the ENT dvds so that's what we're watching next. Am a little sad to be diverging from what shatnertage is watching! It's been a lot of fun getting your perspective.

On the other hand, DS9 is AWESOME. It's DH's favorite series. Enjoy!

    Cool, Markira.

I have a vision that in a few weeks I'll be watching DS9, but right now I'm watching...

    "Prophecy"

I knew from the title that this would be a Klingon ep, and from exodus's mini-spoiler I gathered there would be one with a religious theme. So here we go!

It's a decent episode from an entertainment perspective, but something was off with the pacing. According to the credits there were no less than six writers involved with this, so that tells you something right there.

It would be amusing to count the ways that this violates Trek canon (or is it continuity?) without even trying. For example, I believe it's already been established that Klingons live considerably longer than humans, so 100 years wouldn't exactly be the distant past, would it? Am I right about that? I thought there was a DS9 episode featuring Klingons who Kirk knew/fought with, so wouldn't that give them lifespans of well over a hundred years? They should be in the second generation, max.

Also, the ridged appearance of the Klingons, in light of the ENT Klingon arc, is definitely non-canon, but that's retroactive. If they'd have pushed the departure back another hundred years they could have solved both problems.

These things don't really bother me, but I like catching them.

On to the story: Torres is the mother of the Klingon Messiah. Well, messiah to 200 Klingons, which doesn't sound that impressive. Isn't that about the size of your average cult these days?

The guy who plays Kohlar has an awesome voice. Doesn't mean his dialog is that great, but it sounds good.

Kohlar's destruction of his old ship wasn't exactly the best plan. They more than doubled Voyager's crew, and I thought they were already stretched to the limit. He certainly takes his scrolls literally! (when it suits him)

I also loved, absolutely loved the beer steins with multi-color Klingon empire logos. There are two possibilities: that, as Voyager transported the Klingons from their self-destructing ship, a number of Klingons clasped on these and held on for dear life. The other possibility is that Neelix replicated a bunch of them. I like option one better.

This episode also shows the freaky side of Voyager's crew. First, the Doctor eagerly tells Harry how much research he's done on Klingon sex, and even fills out his alien-banging paperwork for him. Then, Neelix cock-blocks him, though this time it's with Harry's permission.

Tuvok needs to burn down his room or something. I could not be able to find repose in there, knowing that a sex-crazed Neelix had been breaking up the furniture. Freaky!

As far as the main plot, it was decent enough, even if it was a little far-fetched. But the secondary stuff was a lot more amusing.

I never really understood the need to retcon the Klingon forehead ridges in the first place. I enjoyed the story arc in Enterprise when this was addressed - but really, it just added unnecessary complication. And when you get into DS9, you'll see an ep in which the same issue was handled with humor and common sense. Well enough could have been left alone! Ah, well. I can deal.

You did not say "alien-banging paperwork"! Oh, wait, yes you did! :guffaw:

Seriously, if Neelix had sex anywhere near anything I owned, I'd be abandoning my property at warp speed.

I found this ep. really stupid.

:techman:. Though I think Shat's comments valid. But more looking forward to his DS9 thread now. Think he'll have some interesting observations on paternalism (real and surrogate) and gambling in DS9 :)

Not a huge fan of this one either.

The next two, well three but I count two-parters as one, are my two of my favorites from the seventh season.

I'd like for them to follow up on this one to see what Tuvok did to get back at Neelix.

And speaking of Neelix, he's at it again! Yes, he's part of what makes the next episode more than a trip into...

    "The Void"

I was thinking of the Black Sabbath song the whole time I was watching this one. It's a great song, but Jay Chattaway's score for this episode was very effective.

Mood music + mood lighting works wonders on Voyager, doesn't it?

And on a total tangent, somewhere on the list of things I want to do when I have the time is to edit down a version of "Into the Void" to sync up with the Enterprise opening credits. I just have this image of the ship going to warp at the very end--would match up well with the music.

Well, back to "The Void." I loved the opening dinner scene. I kept repeating, "This is fricking hysterical!" while watching it. Seven even borrowed one of Neelix's aprons. And what was the deal with the random redshirt just standing there?

So they get pulled into the Void, and get stuff stolen. Then an alien with a really, really cool face gives them the basic set-up, but Janeway refuses to hunt or be hunted. Instead, she wants to work together. What's gonna work? Teamwork!

For me, the high points of this episode were the opening dinner; the moody lighting and music; and the freaky stealthy alien that the EMH taught to use a musical Speak-and-Spell.

Although I'll say for the record I would love to have the image of that guy crouched on the table touching himself while listening to Rigoletto scrubbed from my brain. It was really pretty kinky, and that's not necessarily something I'm looking for in Sickbay. Though I'm sure the Doctor was fascinated by it.

And we saw those aliens who look almost exactly like Sontarans again. Turns out they're peeping Toms! Voyager's been really into degenerates lately, hasn't it?

In the end, Janeway teaches some of the aliens the True Meaning of Christmas; those guys get to go home. The bad guys (including the guy with the mega-cool face) are basically a bunch of Klingons with a bunch of Tribbles suddenly transported aboard.

I got a real kick out of this episode. You had Seven making dinner, aliens with neat faces, fake Sontarans, an alien rubbing his nipple area in Sickbay, and cool music. What more could you ask for?

I ADORE the score for this episode.

I also love this episode! I'm a little flabbergasted as to why they named an episode the same name as the place they traveled through in "Night," as it can get confusing when discussing the episodes. The episodes are already similar in a lot of ways; why they decided to further confuse the issue eludes me.

Loved the part when they're trying to break free of The Void and the ship ends up doing like six backflips through space and Janeway's hair turns into something out of The Lion King.

Also: alien rubbing his nipple in Sickbay. LOL!!! I'm glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that.

A few weeks ago, I grabbed an mp3 of the score during the montage sequence - it's probably my favorite bit of music in the show next to the Scorpion theme. The synth was kinda nice and TNG-ish.

    Sharing is caring:

OMG. I love Wonder Pets. And I don't even have a child.

    I shouldn't have admitted that.

Bonus points for working in a reference to the Wonder Pets. I laughed soooo hard. Then I laughed harder when Froot admitted her fondness for them. I wonder if I could do some kind of crossover vid with Janeway saving the puppy that has to pee. Or maybe the Doc helping save the Rat Pack. Hmmmm.

On a serious note, I liked this ep and thought those aliens (which I think of as the "Mud Dauber Aliens") are creepy looking and awesome. Although I never particularly noticed one of them rubbing his nipple. Must look for that. Or not.

BTW, did anyone else notice the blantent re-use of Hunter of the Tosk uniforms from DS9?

I understand saving on a budget but they never altered them in any way.

I came late to this thread. I'd love you to do a DS9 one. I haven't seen Voyager or DS9 in years so this brings it all back and, in a sad way, reminds me how much I've forgotten.
