RIP William "Trelane" Campbell

chardman

Vice Admiral
In Memoriam
Didn't see this anywhere on the TBBS.

James Cawley has posted on Facebook of the death of William Campbell, who played Trelane and Koloth of ST:TOS.

I met Bill at a small convention here in Indianapolis about 15 yrs ago. Lovely guy. Also appearing was Johnathan Harris from "Lost in Space". They were a scream, particularly when sharing the stage. One of my most treasured convention memories. RIP

Another Dahar Master has entered Stovokor.

RIP, Bill. Thanks for the great memories. :(

*sad* Excellent and joyful/playful actor. The first I saw on TOS dvds who could outshine Shatner onscreen (Colicos was great actor but more considered/classical). We should thank him for the Q. I will not mourn but celebrate...

Damn. Campbell's performance as Trelane was legendary, pure awesome. But Koloth was good fun too, especially his DS9 appearance. My favourite Koloth moment, Odo is just sitting in his office, he looks up and sees Koloth standing there.
Odo: "How did you get in here?"
Koloth: "I am Koloth."
Odo: "That doesn't answer my question."
Koloth: "Yes it does."

RIP

Thanks for that great quote!

And RIP.

Wonderful quote! Like Lurok said, he was someone who could outshine Shatner. A wonderful actor, and it's so sad to lose him.

My Dear, Captain Koloth...

:(

Sad indeed, also too bad that plans to make Koloth a recurring foil for Kirk never came to pass

Koloth: "Yes, it does."

I loved this guy's acting, both as Koloth and Trelane. I heard he was disappointed in his performance as Koloth on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine", but I don't think he should have been.

The character felt quite different from how it was on "Star Trek", but in my opinion, not in a bad way. It made sense for him to be a lot more serious and dignified than he was in his youth, and I enjoyed both versions of the character for different reasons.

Young Koloth was funny because of how he hid his disdain for Kirk behind a mask of artificial friendliness, and Old Koloth was funny for how quietly full of himself and judgmental he was. And of course Trelane was just a joy to watch for his naive whimsy.

I admired Campbell's devotion to his craft as an actor and was delighted to hear him say on a Star Trek DVD interview that Trelane was his favourite part he ever played. It's always pleasing to see actors who take pride in their work on Star Trek. God bless the man.
