1. Best of Both Worlds I and II

I always love how people cheat and use two parters as one episode. If both episodes are that great they should be separate entries.

I genuinely feel PT I is stronger, but taken as one story its hard for me to separate them. Notice for other two parters, I have a definite preference...Birthright I, Redemption I, Unification I (one I didn't mention) are all superior to me than their concluding parts.

Twenty? You're actually making me think? :klingon:

That being said, top 20 in exact order:

12) Allegiance
11) Hollow Pursuits
10) Family
9) The Drumhead
8) The First Duty
7) Menage a Troi
6) The Cost of Living
5) The Best of Both Worlds I&II(I cheated because I couldn't decide which one)

This list is in original airdate chronological order.

Tin Man
Sarek
The Best of Both Worlds
The Wounded
Half a Life
Redemption
Darmok
Ensign Ro
Unification II
Relics
Dark Page
Lower Decks
I pared down the complete list of episodes. Two-parters count as two separate episodes. What remains is mostly from season three. Season one is not represented. Twenty episodes is too few. Thirty would not be nearly as painful.

20 is a good amount.

A lot of these episodes are just the ones I rewatched recently and enjoyed.

1. When The Bough Breaks
2. Conspiracy
3. The Best of Both Worlds Part I
4. The Best of Both Worlds Part II
5. A Matter of Perspective
6. The Royale
7. Coming of Age
8. Symbiosis
9. Lower Decks
10. Pegasus
11. The Enemy
12. Sarek
13. Q Who
14. Conundrum
15. Heart of Glory
16. The Schizoid Man
17. The Nth Degree
18. Too Short A Season
19. Gambit Part I
20. A Matter of Honor

As a note, there are a number of episodes that are thought of as QUITE good that I have not seen. (First Contact, Parallels and Lower decks come to mind.)

Note: I normally count Best of both worlds as one episode, though 1 is better then 2 if you insist on splitting.
Not in any order

Chain of Command I and II

I've just finished watching all seven seasons for first time and these are most memorable I can recall:

Darmok
Best Of Both Worlds
Q Who
Skin Of Evil (I quite liked the bad tarbaby alien)
Cause & Effect
Timescape
The Next Phase (is that the Ro Laren one?)
the last one: AGT

As a general rule, could bear anything with Ro Laren, Lxwanna Troi and Dr Pulaski in as enjoyed those actors appearances, but found the Data/Spiner-look-I-can-play-all-these-parts and Worf & son ones start to get tedious and predictable...

Am I the only one who's completely unable to make such a list because it's completely depending on what mood I'm in?

TNG to me is just a "feel good"-series. I just love watching even the most boring episodes when I'm in a relaxed, slack mood. Ok, there are a couple I really can't stand but for the most part it really depends on the day.

"Skin of Evil" almost made my list. I still find Armus fascinating.

A race of aliens finds a way to extract and bring to the surface all that is evil and corrupt within, in time it formed a second skin, "dank and vile" and the producers decided to express this as black slime. I always wanted to see the aliens who discarded and abandoned Armus...

I think the very first topic (certainly within the first half-dozen) I replied to on this board under this username, over a decade ago, was a Top Ten of TNG. I guess with inflation, a Top Twenty is now about right!

Mine is a pretty controversial/eclectic list, with some notable omissions and inclusions, but hey, it's the eps I like the most. If it was a top 25, I'd add in Symbiosis, Silicon Avatar, Conundrum, Sarek and Disaster, as they either have one scene I really, really love (Symbiosis, Silicon Avatar & Sarek) or a concept I think is great (Conundrum, Disaster) but I can't justify their inclusion in a top 20 on the basis of a single great scene or just the concept. So...

20. Tapestry
19. BOBW Pt I
18. Darmok
17. Samaritan Snare
16. Contagion
15. The Nth Degree
14. Captain's Holiday
13. Night Terrors
12. Schisms
11. Future Imperfect

10. Lessons
9. Where Silence Has Lease
8. Home Soil
7. Ethics
6. Yesterday's Enterprise
5. Remember Me
4. Q Who
3. Peak Performance
2. The Chase

1. Arsenal of Freedom

1. Arsenal of Freedom

I wouldnt list it first, but its nice to finally see some love for this one. I cant understand why "Arsenal" gets lost in the shuffle of "pretty good" S1 episodes, it's such an obvious stand-out to me. I'd consider it easily the best S1 episode, and it's one of my personal favorites. It's a rare straight-up adventure outing for TNG that actually has ALOT of suspense, while keeping the audience thinking and guessing the whole time. Extremely fun all around. And the ending, with Picard figuring out the trick to stop the program while Geordi and the junior officers do their thing is, to me, one of Trek's most satisfying, edge-of-your-seat climaxes.
LOVE this episode.

1. Arsenal of Freedom

I don't find anything on here too controversial. Samaritan Snare is the biggest surprise. I loved Night Terrors way more than the creative team of STNG does. Contagion is another one of those great 5-star episodes that I just couldn't find a home for, prob even in my top 30. Home Soil is a great episode, I enjoy rewatching it. At one time Arsenal of Freedom was in my top 20, until about the 4th or 5th season.

In chronological order...

Where No One Has Gone Before
The Battle
11001001
The Arsenal of Freedom
Conspiracy
Where Silence Has Lease
Contagion
Time Squared
Q Who?
The Emissary

The Best of Both Worlds, Part I
The Best of Both Worlds, Part II
Devil's Due
Timescape

1. Arsenal of Freedom

I wouldnt list it first, but its nice to finally see some love for this one.

For a long time, The Chase was my favourite, with Arsenal of Freedom somewhere in the top 5. But over the years, I've found Arsenal to be the more rewatchable, and enjoyable episode... just!

... is a great episode, I enjoy rewatching it.

With TNG's original airing so long in the past, that's now my main criteria for choosing favourites. Some of the more established TNG classics that I didn't include, or rated low in the top twenty, were splendid viewing the first time, perhaps even more enjoyable on original airing than some others on my list. But for me, now, it takes that kind of enjoyable rewatchability to still count an episode as a personal favourite.
