First off, congratulations again to my co-winners JiNX-01 & Gov Kodos, who both had the good sense to throw in the towel before I did...

Second, thansk to auntiehill for the theme suggestion of this week's contest, "Damn Kids!" I added the "damn" part.

So, yeah, this week's contest is all about children in scifi. Pretty self-explanatory, I think, but if ya have any doubts, post your idea, and we can go from there.

Entries have to conform to board rules - up to 140x140 and 140KB if animated.

All entries should be posted by Thursday night, Friday mornin', and the poll will go up some time Friday afternoon, or evenin'.

Good luck!

I did a google & wiki search thing for the 2001 "star child" and from what I read, its more of a symbolic thing about the creation of a new race, not an actual baby, so it doesn't really go with the theme of bein' a damn kid. But since I'm usin' goop in a jar for my entry, I guess I don't have much room to talk.

Anyone else want to throw two cents in?

Say what?

Certainly it's an actual being, as is made clear in the novel. It is generally agreed that it is the being that astronaut David Bowman is transformed into. How much of Dave remains, and how much of the being is also part Monolith is open to interpretation. However, there are clear depictions of sperm, and an embryo in the space warp leading into the sequence in which Dave's death results in the creation of the Star Child.

Well, I expected debate about whether the being was legitimately a child, which I'm still entirely open to, not about whether it was actually a being.
