This came up in another thread, and it has been suggested that it is common for regular Jane/Joe to want to be in a polygamous relationship.

So I'm curious exactly how many people here are actually willing to become an active member in a polygamy.

My current understanding is that no person would ever willingly enter into polygamy because it demeans one gender or another (typically, it's the females who are demeaned.) But depending on the results of the poll, I might be proven wrong.

I'm asking about polygamy, not polyamory. Let's ignore the legal aspect of the matter. Polygamy as defined on wiki.

Polygamy is multiple marriages - there's also polyamory (however much I might not like the word itself) which is open relationships between many people.

Do you mean polygamy which is against the law or polyamory which isn't.

No, I mean polygamy, the kind that is against the law. But ignoring the legal aspect for the sake of the poll.
 
So going through with actual marriage ceremonies for each partner?

Sorry to be so nit-picky but it does make a difference to my answer.

It will be up to you how you marry them. You can either have a mass ceremony for everyone involved, or you can have a ceremony for each subsequent partner that comes alone. You can choose your own type of ceremony, but there will be ceremonies.

My husband is mine and I am his.

Plus I'm the jealous type. I don't even like him looking at other women besides me, and I am very grateful that I am confident enough to say that he considers me much more attractive than the nurses he works with.
 
Okay then no, I wouldn't get involved in a polygamous relationship.

I am, however, one end of a polyamorous chain - mr trampledamage has a girlfriend. I'm not interested in seeing anyone else though.
 
I dunno, maybe? I can't imagine getting married again but there was a time I couldn't imagine doing it the first time, so never say never.
 
Nope, but then I am not even willing to enter a monogamous relationship. I like my own company better.
 
It would depend on the situation.

I dislike any implication that one person owns or belongs to another. So, if the situation was that I belonged to her and no one else, no, I would not be a part of that.

However, if I liked a woman enough to marry her, and she had one or more other husbands, and I just happened to not be seeing anyone else at the time, that I could do.
 
Maybe I misunderstood the question, but I voted that I'd be willing to enter a many-to-many relationship. I am in a monogamous relationship right now, so it's not really an issue, but I'd be okay with it if it was a polyamorous thing. Polygamy generally seems like a bad idea, though, to me.

Like mairbeariepie, I have a jealous streak. I could not share.

And if I commit to somebody, then I am true to them and expect it in return.

I've been engaged 3 times, proposed to 6 times, but it's always me that has backed out because I didn't trust the person. History shows that I was wise as they all cheated on me, and that hurt.

So, no, I could not imagine a polygamous relationship.

I have male friends who Man is totally comfortable with me going out for lunch with, I tell him of the people I flirt with at work (especially Josh from the Gym;)) but he totally trusts me, as he should.

I think maybe I'm too old for this thought.

If you're young and not ready to settle down, then do what you wish ~ as long as the other partner is aware and agrees.

But for me, the thought of cooking two dinners a night is frightful :eek:
 
In a bizarre way I think I already am. My girlfriend actually lives with her ex-boyfriend(they are just roommates though, their relationship ended even before I met her). I don't know. It might be fun or different in theory, but knowing the kind of person I am I think a lot of things that sound good in a fantasy I would probably hate in real life so I'll have to say no.
 
Well, I don't believe in marriage to begin with. :rommie: However, in the spirit of the question, me being me, I can only envision myself in a permanent intimate relationship with one woman. This doesn't mean, however, that I oppose the idea-- to paraphrase Shaw, I don't believe the customs of my tribe and island are the laws of nature. And I have no reason to preclude the possibility of finding myself in such a position, however far fetched.
 
I don't see it in my current relationship: I have friends, mates, drink buddies, all kind of personal connections with a lot of people, but romantically speaking I don't feel the need for anything else.

But I have nothing against it in principle, as long as everybody is aware and willing. In another time, in another place? Why not.
 
ONE IS ENOUGH.

I'm not very social, could not STAND to have some other woman living with me or to have more than one husband. The only attractive alternative to monogamy for me is living by myself, cat-lady style.

This was my other thought.

I'm not a people person. Neither is my husband so I know it wouldn't happen EVER. :lol:

Dogs for me though, I'm allergic to cats. :)
