I know. *sigh* Look, whether the DS9 relaunch picks up where it left off or not--the sooner SOMEONE reconciles the two after the events of ZSG...the better!

    Well, I had a idea for a relaunch 2....

DS9 is celebrating the anniversary of Bajor joining the Federation. (It's been what, 5 years? More?) Sisko is invited, Dax is invited, the old cast reunites while we meet the new cast assigned to the station under Captain Ro.

I could see something like that working. It would be a great way to introduce the new set up for the series. I just hope if they decide to focus on the split up cast, that they just focus on one or groups of characters per book. IMO that's been the biggest problem with NF, Peter David is trying to focus on to many different groups of characters.

:guffaw: Seriously, though, I hope Sisko and family are quickly rescued from what DRGIII did to them.

^I wouldn't hold my breath. If they could split up Ezri and Julian and keep them split for this long...

^Yeah, but at least Ezri and Julian weren't married with a daughter.

Not bad, still u would think the Bajorans would give some of DS9 heroes some statues in their honor. I mean honestly u would expect at least Sisko to get one. Also when did Bajor officially join the Federation? And who is in charge now?

I'm fascinated that the poll is about even... I'd like it to go from TSK onwards, filling in the gaps as it goes... looked like neat stuff was afoot. At least a novel a year though.

Sure. Reconcile, be friends, admit mutual mistakes, and move on. Bashir with Sarina, Ezri as herself until somebody comes along.

Yeah - Julian and Ezri were a cute, good couple in their time but Ben and Kasidy were a bedrock of the show by the end.

Nah. Too simple--not enough story there. Besides, I don't think Julian would WANT to stay with Sarina, when he discovers--

that she's been duping him for You Know Who...

--and he WILL discover it, if he's the brilliant intellect we remember.

With that out of the way, I could just imagine an homage to the final scene of Quantum of Solace, between Ezri and Julian. ("Did you...find what you were looking for?" "Yes. Congratulations, Ezri, you were right." "About what?" "About Sarina...and me.")

Or better yet, the end of Casino Royale--again, with Ezri in place of M. (I know--that idea's cruel. But even with Sarina not dying, that exchange could easily be made appropriate. For example--

He could make the discovery, confront Sarina, and watch her tearfully leave him....

    Or something similar, anyway.)

*shrug* I'm in the minority, but I had no problem with Ezri and Julian breaking up. Their romance felt pretty rushed in the final season....

^^ My only problem with them breaking up was that it seemed compleltely arbitary. as though somone had said "this is the book they break up" rather than the break up being the natural progression of the story. especially since they retconned aspects of what happened in Avatar to do it (for example having Dax say she was upset that Bashir had "brought out Jadzia" when havnig sex etc... when in Avatar it was Bashir who was upset and angry it had happened and Dax had shrugegd it off.)

^Right. It's as if someone was forcing on us the idea that, "Oh, their relationship was never legit--Julian just saw Ezri as another Jadzia"--something which completely contradicted everything we knew about their relationship. So they "re-wrote" everything in Unjoined, a la Tolkien and the Ring-Gollum-Hobbit arc.

Well...Sisko/Kassidy "clicked" after just one episode--half an episode, actually--the same one where they met, as it were. (Of course, it may have been excusable because of their mutal love of America's Pastime....)

By contrast, it took an entire season for Julian and Ezri to come together.

If anything no more novels focusing on Ezri and Julian. It's Star Trek: Deep Space Nine not Star Trek: Deep Space Dax.

How's about, say, a new Star Trek: Section 31 series?

An actual series, this time--focusing on Julian, Ezri, and Sarina--with T'Laan and her division of The Bureau, of course.

    And of course--

    BRING BACK YOU-KNOW-WHO!!!

I'm really not a fan of that idea. I think S31 is something that works best in small doses, just popping up with something major is going on.

Well, I might be a bit biased in favor of such a series.

I kinda made a bet with a couple of the less sympathetic-to-31 members of the board that, were we to see more of 31 at work, it's image (in matters of efficency and successfulness, not necessarily morality) would improve.

The only way to make 31 work would be to pull a Torchwood on it - burn the whole thing down, clean it out, and start over again. And even then it would need to be under somebody's purview and face a lot of criticism. And Star Trek just isn't the sort of world where Torchwood/Buffy/Angel/etc. storytelling fits.

Also, there's no good reason for Dax and Aventine to be involved; let them have their own adventures. Especially given Ezri's latest encounter with what secrets do to a society, she's the last person who should be sanctioning 31.

I do like the idea that somebody had upthread of a "reunion" book - 2013 will be the 20th Anniversary of the show after all.

    Nope.

    Here's a hint: the subject we're discussing is...Section 31.

Not necessarily. That's certainly a way, but not the only way.

Yes, and yes. I'd be glad to volunteer--just a few "loose ends" to tie up....

Well, let's see...the mission involved her doing what was necessary, and having the government spin it to keep the real events secret.

Besides, who say's she'd be sanctioning it, per se? After all, because of T'Laan, her personal life now has a great big headache.

Furthermore...one would thing Bashir would be "the last person who should be sanctioning 31"--and yet...

    On here, we agree.
