SG-1 Season 6

Skywalker

I recently finished watching Season 6 on Netflix. I'm only posting about it because, when I first started my SG-1 watch-through, some friends of mine told me that Season 6 was one of the weaker seasons. But after I finished it, I thought it was actually pretty solid. There were a couple mediocre episodes, but there weren't any really truly awful ones. I was also warned that Jonas Quinn was an awful character and was really obnoxious, but I actually rather liked him, and while Daniel's my favorite character, I do think Jonas (and Corin Nemec) kind of got shafted at the end of Season 6/beginning of Season 7.

So am I in the minority in regards to this season, or what?

The first half of season 6 is freaking awesome. With episodes like Redemption, Abyss, and The Other Guys easily standing out as the best and even episodes like Descent, Frozen, Nightwalkers and Shadow Play are pretty solid. The Prometheus/Unnatural Selection two parter is a fine story, even if it did introduce the humanoid Replicators, which would later be a detriment to the Stargate franchise.

The second half of the season is a bit meh. The Changeling is the best there, and really is great episode. Smoke & Mirrors, Paradise Lost and Memento are pretty decent episodes, Disclosure is fun for a clip show, and Full Circle is a satisfying season finale, though a part of me is kind of concerned that it was intended to be the series finale.

But overall, yeah season 6 is pretty decent. Maybe not the best of SG-1, but any Stargate fan should be more than entertained while watching it.

While I can't really speak to the strength of the whole season compared to the rest, S6 had some of my favorites, especially Abyss, Allegiance, and Full Circle.

I initially disliked S6 just because it didn't have Daniel, which is probably why many others are turned off by it, but overall it's a good season. The convenient quick learning of Jonas was a bit contrived, but aside from that he was a likable character.
It had a major duds like Nightwalkers, The Other Guys, Disclosure, but it had some great ones like Redemption, Full Circle, and Unnatural Selection.

And season 8 is clearly the weakest season. ;)

Ooh, Skywalker is watching through SG-1. How I wish you'd write a review thread!

The sixth season is one of the best, and Daniel is one of my favorite characters. Most people tend to look at four through five as the strongest years but as much as I adore them, I actually like almost half the series more. Six is one of those seasons.

We'll have to agree to disagree on The Other Guys and Disclosure, BlobVanDam. The Other Guys was pure fun, and even though Disclosure was a clip show (which I normally hate), I really enjoyed the framing story. That's ignoring the fact that China, the United Kingdom, and France should have all found out about the Stargate Program way sooner than they actually did. :p

I wish I had, in retrospect. But now it'd be weird to start one up right in the middle of Season 7.

I've always had an aversion to clip shows, no matter how it's dressed up, and I didn't much like the framing (aside from the very end).
As for The Other Guys, I find Stargate's humour episodes to be hit and miss. I hate The Other Guys, yet I didn't mind Avenger 2.0, even though it was the same main guy. Go figure.

I liked Jonas
I still think it's interesting that Jonas Quinn who is an alien has a more normal name than the human actor that played him, Corin Nemec :p

Not one bit.

Fanboys seem to hate it, people like me, who know the show is just goofy fun really enjoyed it. To me season 6 is a perfect ending to SG-1. Take a few two parters from the later seasons and make them movies.

And Stargate would have been a lot better if the seasons were 13 episodes because there is a ton of useless shit in a lot of the season.s

Loved season 6, the last excellent one of the series, it's all downhill from 7 onwards. The whole mood of the season was great I thought, almost on par with season 4 which I think is the best.

Why should they have found out so much sooner?

Whereas I love "The Other Guys" and hate "Avenger 2.0." But I think a lot of that is because "Avenger 2.0" doesn't have Dr. Coombs. John Billingsley is such a good actor that he's even able to give Dr. Coombs a modicum of believable dignity. The Red Green guy is just obnoxious. (And it gets worse because a portion of "Avenger 2.0" becomes a plot point later on in a serious episode in "Reckoning.")

I like Season 6, although it's the beginning of the trend of episodes specifically designed to include Jack O'Neill as little as possible while still integrating him into the story. "Smoke & Mirrors" is an obvious one, where Jack O'Neill is in jail for most of the episode but it's still about him because it's about the rest of SG-1 working to exonerate him. Then there's "Redemption," which puts all of its focus on the SGC A-plot with Samantha Carter, Jonas Quinn, & Dr. McKay and the off-world B-plot with Teal'c & his son. Jack O'Neill only shows up briefly at the beginning, and then shows up at the last minute to fly the X-302 and save the day!

I thought it was because The Other Guys was fun, but as usual with SG, they took it too far and OTT with Avenger 2.0

6x01 Redemption, Part 1
6x02 Redemption, Part 2
6x03 Descent
6x04 Frozen [C]
6x05 Nightwalkers [F]
6x06 Abyss
6x07 Shadow Play [C]
6x08 The Other Guys
6x09 Allegiance [C]
6x10 Cure [C]
6x11 Prometheus [C]
6x12 Unnatural Selection
6x13 Sight Unseen [D]
6x14 Smoke & Mirrors
6x15 Paradise Lost [C]
6x16 Metamorphosis [C]
6x17 Disclosure [C]
6x18 Forsaken
6x19 The Changeling [A]
6x20 Memento
6x21 Prophecy
6x22 Full Circle

Here are my ratings for Season 6. I think Nightwalkers is the worst episode of the entire season. It tried to do "The X-Files" but failed miserably. Sight Unseen is also another ridiculous episode.

Also, the first several episodes has Teal'c severely out of character. It was like Christopher Judge wasn't back into the swing of things or was being poorly writter. At the end of season 5, he is cracking jokes and constantly appearing more human. At the beginning of season 6, he is reduced to standing around and cocking his eyebrow.

I never had a problem with Jonas, though.

:techman:

Avenger was just an ad for a game that was never released.

Whereas for me it's the reverse. The whole intro of The Other Guys was the three nerds as a fan proxy, talking like fanboys about how great the SG team is, and joking about Daniel dying a lot, and the Star Trek references, and too much focus on the "other guys". I felt it was well over the top.
Avenger 2.0 still had a lot of focus on another character with a lot of comic relief, but it felt more relevant to the episode and the story, rather than just for humour. It was still hammed up, and I disliked the episode the first time I saw it, but upon further viewings it just manages to stay under the line of silliness for me.

I don't remember any jokes about Daniel dying in The Other Guys, or even any referances to Daniel at all in the episode. In fact, aside from vague comments about Jonas being the new guy ("it's your first time being captured by the Goa'uld") you wouldn't have known there was a recent cast change watching that episode.

And really, it was just one nerd going into fanboy orgasms over being around SG-1, another nerd who whined that he didn't want to be there, and a third was was sent back to Earth at the beginning.

I was thinking of the joke along the lines of-
"Daniel Jackson is going to die when he sees this!"
"Again?"
Am I getting my episodes confused? If it's season 6, I suppose I must be. What episode is that from? :vulcan:

I was just skimming the intro again, and have two points.
First of all, it felt like a lot of main cast worship and Trek references.
And second of all, is that PHLOX?!! My opinion of this episode just went up ever so marginally.
