Movies you love but others hate.

I am sooooo happy you started this thread -- I've been thinking about doing the same topic but was a bit chicken about it.

The Fifth Element

Minority Report

In the future, don't be afraid! :)

i also love Minority Report (can't tell you how often i imitate the movements Tom Cruise does when he's going through the information/videos. Usually when i want someone to speed up the story they are telling...)

And i would love Fifth Element except for the fact that Chris Tucker totally ruins it for me. How that man has a career in acting is beyond me. :wtf:

I LOVE The Fifth Element! One of my top favorites!

"Moooooooooolltiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii Pass!"

Milla Jovovich in The Fifth Element gave young me a lifelong thing for skinny foreign girls with crazy hair - but I thought the film itself was terrible.

Yw, and thank you for posting, never be worried about creating a thread you might think will be of interest, the very worst thing that will happen is you will get only one or two replies...like most of the other threads I've started...:guffaw:

As for being brave...Did I mention I also liked Hudson Hawk?
so Cabin Boy...Hexed...Hudson Hawk...any wonder why I let my dates pick the movie? :P

I love The Babysitters Club movie, I loved the books and the movie was actually really cute. Ditto with The Princess Diaries movies. The second one was totally unrelated to the books, but anything with Anne Hathaway and Julie Andrews, I'm going to love, plus Chris Pine. It was a really cute romance.

I loved The Village. I guessed the twist pretty easily, but only because it'a actually very similar to one of my favorite children's books, Running Out of Time by Margaret Peterson Haddix. If you like The Village, you'd probably like Running Out of Time.

As for me, I'll be brave and say Will Smith's Wild Wild West made me happy.

Sure it was only a fraction as good as it could have been (should have been?), but I still enjoyed it enough to see it twice in the theater. I may be the only person who can say that.

If I were a gambling man, I'd say "yes, you might be the only person who can say that." :p

I'll throw one into the ring that is pretty well hated here: "The Phantom Menace."

I love the Star Wars prequels, and I admit it openly.

I love The Village, too.

The Fifth Element is hated? Really? I love it to bits.

There's another film with Milla Jovovich everyone hates but I adore, called The Messenger. Everyone thinks it sucks, but I think it's awesome.

The Fifth Element's inclusion in this thread kind of baffles me, too. I didn't care for it personally, but most sci/fi fans I know are rabid for it. At the very least, I thought it was regarded as a cult classic.

Raptor Island gets so much crap but it is a really good movie. I mean, Navy Seals vs terrorists and dinosaurs what else could you want?

^ I used to have that problem as well. In my case that means I was a Tequila mockingbird.

*Uuurk!*

I too loved Signs and The Village by Shamalyn. And ST: The Undiscovered Country - I think it's actually my favorite ST movie. *ducks*

You must be kidding...that's the only Indiana Jones film I actually find thoroughly entertaining. Sure, it's silly, but that's no reason for people to hate it. Or is it?

I like Signs and The Village!

I thought I was the only one who laughed at Oscar. Other comedies I loved that don't seem to get any other love are Soapdish and Death Becomes Her.

But Alexander and The Wind That Shakes the Barley are positively loathed, although they shouldn't be.

And the remake of The Day the Earth Stood Still is better than the original.

Water World.

I am the only person alive I know that likes this movie. None of my family, friends, or girlfriend likes it. Although I DID succeed in getting my brother and my girlfriend to watch the DVD with me. My girlfriend hated it so much that she threatened to leave me if I ever make her sit through it again. Of course, she was exaggerating.

I think.

I hope.:shifty:

And this, after sitting through numerous Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt movies with her.

...i will start off with probably the GREATEST movie ever made...Cabin Boy! no joke I truly love this movie on so many levels...
I haven't seen Cabin Boy, but you might enjoy reading this defense of it by Eric Snider.

Anyway I posted a list of unpopular movies I like in this thread from a few years ago. I posted:
X-Men 3: The Last Stand
King Kong
(1976 version)
Waterworld
The Lost World: Jurassic Park
Bicentennial Man
Star Trek: Generations

Don't get me wrong; I can see flaws in the above-mentioned movies, but the flaws don't ruin the films for me.

Batman Returns used to be on the above list, but now everyone else seems to like it too. Perhaps Batman and Robin showed everyone how much worse a Batman film could be.
I would add Tim Burton's version of Planet of the Apes.

Generations is probably my favourite ST movie.

Also, after a shaky first half hour, I actually enjoyed The Phantom Menace.
