Shore Leave 2011

Bob Greenberger

Hey all, when I wasn't looking, the Shore Leave committee posted their first three media guests for this July's show. Returning to the Hunt Valley Inn will be John DeLancie and Christopher Judge. But for me, the newcomer is a thrill because its Susan Kellerman, who can chat not only about shooting "Where No Man Has Gone Before" but making the M*A*S*H feature film. I'm excited.

I dare say that Sally doesn't look like the publicity picture on the Shore Leave Web site. ;)

Of course, I don't think Christopher Judge has a gold tatoo, either.

I'm starting to seriously consider trying to go to SL sometime in the next few years. For almost the entire time I've been posting here, I've heard about how much fun people have had at the con, and I really want to experience it for myself.

I look forward each year to this thread, know that book announcements are approaching. Man what a dissapointment to know we have to wait another six months...

^ Actually, does anyone know if that IS actually going to be true this year? Last year, authors had the go-ahead to announce the projects as they came. Is it all being saved for Shore Leave this time around, like in years past?

Do Trek authors ever show up at these conventions? By this point there are a few I'd be just as interested in seeing as the TV actors.

^ This is *the* convention where Trek authors go; usually, just about all the authors that post here will be there.

I only wish I could go! I have a summer job that conflicts, every damn year.

Probably too early to know that. We'll find out once we actually have new projects commissioned for 2012.

And just to clarify, some of us (those with books early in 2011) got the go-ahead to announce early, but I think the majority of the 2011 schedule was announced in Star Trek Magazine around the same time as Shore Leave.

Exactly. Shore Leave is practically the Trekkie author prom. Friday night is the big mass autographing. They line us up along a long corridor and we spend two-plus hours signing books. The local Borders also sets up a table will many of our recent books.

There's usually at least a dozen of us in attendance.

I've wanted to attend it since I first saw Trekkies (the location is much more appealing than Las Vegas) -- sounds like I have additional incentive now. :)

Hey Smellincoffee, if you can get there then go. I go every year and I love being able to actually talk with the authors about the books they write. They are very gracious to the fans.
For those among the authors who can make it this year, I thank you in advance and look forward to seeing you there.:)
