I just returned a short while ago from the grid. Tremendous film visually, stepping things up to a more ominous nature than before. There aspects of the story which seemed rather muddled, but not too much. Olivia Wilde was reasonably used in this, with only a couple of "beauty shots" which were not gratuitously distracting. And as I've mentioned elsewhere... Bruce Boxleitner gets a nice part in this movie, something I was hoping for. He strikes me as a good actor... and a good man. Other thoughts?
One point... this particular sneak preview happened to be in 3D. While it was alright, and made a few scenes more fun ... don't bother with it. Save your money and go to a regular presentation
I went to the 3D session earlier in the day. Very enjoyable. As this the first film, I've ever seen in 3D, kinder felt a little disappointed by the 3D aspects. The soundtrack by Daft Punk rocked.
Neroon, tell me one thing about the film: Spoiler Does Bruce appear just as Alan Brady or does Tron himself also appear? No details, just yes or no. I've been impatiently waiting for this film for longer than I can remember and hopefully that wait will end on Friday or this weekend at worst.
Well, Emh .... without revealing TOO much......... Spoiler Yes and no. Once you see the film you will understand why I replied like this.
This was going to be my first 3D movie, but i think i will give it a miss now, sad to hear people say just go for the normal version.
The 3D is decently executed and enjoyable, don't get me wrong on that. It's simply that I felt it wasn't worth the extra ducats you'd have to shell out to see that version.
I'm not surprised. 3D sucks. (I guess it's worth giving a try. But I'll never willingly go to a 3D film again. The offender? Avatar, widely considered the best use of 3D of all time.)
I'm jealous of Neroon! Really looking forward to this movie, hope to see it this weekend but have Christmas events to go to. $*#&%^ Christmas!!!
Avatar was superb in 3D. You really got the feeling you were "in" the movie-space. James Cameron devoted a tremendous amount of effort and resources to "get it right". I've not seen other 3D movies, but from the testimonies of my friends who have seen them, they all pale in comparison to Avatar. Thanks for the heads up on this, wee free king. I was going to see Tron Legacy in 3D, but now I'm not... Speaking of 3D, I thought it real folly for TV manufacturers to build in 3D functionality to flat screens. The effects are seriously lacking for that scale. You need a huge screen to really get a feel for it. Thus, I could see TV projectors using the technology... that makes sense. In any case, I'm in the market for a flat screen TV and with the general public feeling the need for 3D, that makes the ones offering only 2D go down in value to make them more affordable.
I saw it at a Variety screening at Skywalker Ranch on Monday, and there was a Q&A with the director afterwards. The film is pretty to look at, but the story isn't much of anything at all.
I'd give the film 8 out of 10. Yeah, it's not too taxing as far as storylines go, but I don't see why that's such a big deal. Half of the more 'complicated' films these days are mostly filled with busy air, not amounting to much anyway. I liked what I saw, I liked what I heard, it kept my interest, and I'll buy it when it comes out.
So, for the midnight showing, we had at least 60 people in a 90-person auditorium. It was a private event held by our local 1980s arcade (called 1984), so I think we actually had a good turnout, considering the price was $30 (which got us unlimited pizza, a free drink, hours of 1980s arcade gameplay, a viewing of the original movie, and the private 3D showing of Tron: Legacy). Oh, and we also all got Tron: Legacy messenger bags! Overall, an awesome, fun evening/night, and it made for a unique atmosphere while watching the movie because we had all just come from a 1980s arcade, so when Sam walks into Flynn's and "Sweet Dreams" starts playing... man, it was surreal (because "Sweet Dreams" had actually been one of the music videos that played on the TVs at the arcade earlier this evening!). Maybe I'm being too easy on the script. I dunno. But I LOVED the movie, I hope they are able to make it into a trilogy, and my grade is an A- (so I voted Excellent). Oh, and I totally recommend this movie in 3D. I think it was brilliant the way they used 2D versus 3D, and personally, I thought this was one of the few movies that was really made to be seen in 3D (like Avatar). I'm certainly not a huge proponent of 3D films (for example, I think Tangled was probably better in 2D), but this is definitely one of the movies I'd recommend seeing in 3D.
Joy that sounds awesome. I wish there was something like that here in Newcastle. I also would like it to be a trilogy.
