Looking for classic Trek books for my Nook wishlist

JD

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
I've noticed that pretty much every Pocket Trek book is available for the Nook, so I just thought I'd see which older (pre 2XXXs) books I should add to my wishlist. I've already got:
the pretty much all of the episode and movie novelisations,
The Final Reflection
Metamorphosis
The Siege
Devil in the Sky
Federation
Sarek
Spock's World
The Q Continuum (Signature Edition)
Mosaic
Prime Directive
Vulcan's (Noun)
Requiem
I've also got some more recent stuff that I haven't read yet:
The 34th Rule
Gemworld
The Brave and the Bold
Catalyst of Sorrow
Crucible
Slings and Arrows
Captain Proton: Defender of Earth
Hollow Men
Ex Machina
The Sky's the Limit
Kahn series

So, I was just wondering if there were any other pre-2XXX books that would be considered classics that I'm missing? (I already have the Rihansuu books).

Anything by Peter David is going to be pretty fantastic, or at least noteworthy; even the people that hate him recently tend to like his work before New Frontier started.

The Invasion! books are a good time, as long as you're not put off by some weirdly avoidable continuity mistakes.

DS9: Fallen Heroes is a must.

The Captain's Table miniseries was also surprisingly solid; only the TNG entry, really, disappointed.

^Ah, I've actually owned the TNG Captains Table book since it first came out, but I've read it. Sounds like I'm not missing much.

The ones I remember liking (keeping in mind I was eight to ten when I read them):

TOS:

Yesterday's Son
Chain of Attack
The Final Nexus
How Much for Just the Planet?
The Entropy Effect
Uhura's Song
The Three Minute Universe
Corona
Enterprise: The First Adventure
Bloodthirst
Timetrap

TNG:
Ghost Ship (keeping in mind the guy who wrote it had probably only seen two episodes)
Survivors
Strike Zone

I added The Captain's Daughter, The Rift, Vendetta, and Q-In-Law. I really like most of Peter David's older stuff, and these are all ones I've been wanting to read for quite a while.

I second Yesterday's Son and I'll add it's sequel Time for Yesterday. I know it's a bit of a fangirl love, but Spock having a son, and said son was kick ass general (in the second book) is just a fun read.

So those are good than? I've been curious about those two for some time now.

I'm anticipating Kobayashi Maru -- the original, in which Sulu, Chekov, and Scotty reveal how they beat the test to Kirk.

^Added it. I've heard about that one a fair amount, and I'm very curious to see what they did with those characters and the test.

Is The Devil's Heart any good? It's sounded interesting to me for a while, but I've never had a chance to read it.

I have pleasant memories of reading it in a coffee shop while playing hooky from work. Unfortunately, that was almost 2 decades ago, so my memories of the actual story are pretty much gone.

But damn, that was a fine day in that coffee shop sipping mochas and reading that book...

The Romulan Way is very good (though, like Federation, it's been contradicted since). It's a sequel to My Enemy, My Ally, which is somewhat weirder, but very good in parts, and has three sequels: Swordhunt, Honor Blade, and The Empty Chair.

I enjoyed all five of those books, but The Romulan Way is the best of them (reading My Enemy, My Ally first might help explain one important event later in the book).

I'm not a fan-girl, and I count these two amognst my favorites.

I'll second the Rihannsu books and add JM Dillard's The Lost Years (Just the first book of the four).

I already have The Bloodwing Voyages, and The Empty Throne is on my list.

Sorry about reviving a dead thread. I was looking through my Nook wish list and noticed that almost all of the Star Trek books I have in my list are TOS, so I was wondering if you guys and girls would be willing to recommend some books in the other series published before the relaunches.

PAD's TNG books are PAD at his best IMHO. And despite pre-dating New Frontier and the lit "re-launches", pretty much every Trek book he has ever written has had retroactive ties to New Frontier or the larger novelverse continuity in one way or another.

Strike Zone (I've always described this book as "Trek meets Hitchhikers Guide". Introduces the Selelvians and the Kreel.)

A Rock and a Hard Place (Main guest star Quentin Stone, which many consider the "prototype" for the Calhoun character, got a brief nod in the "No Limits" anthology.)

Q-in-Law (Best. Q. Story. EVER.)

Vendetta (Despite my love of the Destiny trilogy, this is still my favorite Borg novel. This book begins PAD's use of Elizabeth Shelby and her pre-Calhoun captain, Morgan Korsmo.)

Imzadi (To me, the essential Riker/Troi story. Several novels have utilized the backstory established here.)

Q-Squared (Hard to define. Just read it.:techman:)

Imzadi 2: Triangle (Meh. I never liked the Troi/Worf relationship at all, but PAD makes an admirable and largely acceptable attempt at having it all make sense. More (if very slight) use of Shelby/Korsmo.)

I.Q (Co-written by John DeLancie. Need I really say more?)

Although Vendetta gets a little love on the forums, I found the novel a little....bizzare when I read it. But then again, that was ages ago.

One I haven't seen mentioned yet is Masks; a TNG novel by John Vornholt I believe. A great stand alone book in my opinion early in the TNG series.

Devil's Heart is also hard for me to comment on. Like Vendetta, it was ages ago. And after so many novels, they begin to fade. I seem to remember it not being a favorite though for whatever reason.

New Frontier
Vanguard
Voyager - String Theory trilogy
The Captains Table books/stories with the Voyager one being the best one
SCE/CoE

All good stuff
