November Challenge-Redemption

Woot! This has been a good turn out so far. I've liked each of the entires.

Can't wait for yours. And Nerys, I do hope you get a chance to finish. I'm always eager to see what you've come up with. As well as others.

And happy early turkey day to all. Just a couple days off now. Such wonderful foodstuffs :D

^ Agreed, I tried to avoid reading them until I post mine but i couldn't. Great stories ya'll! You'd be surprised how iphone friendly this forum is. Plenty of good reading sitting on the train.

Turkey day... Thats Thanksgiving, correct? (My american is a bit rusty )

haha, yes. On here, and when interacting with those from other countries I just call it turkey day. Old habit I guess I picked up when we had an exchange student at my high school who was certain that Thanksgiving was NOT in November. Apparently they had a similarly named holiday on a different date, but for the life of me I can't remember when...

the deadline is the 10th Dec right?

I'm just having a bit of trouble with writing the thing( what with being a procrastinating hack and all) and I want to make sure that I still have time.

ah, yeah. its my understanding that its quite the party on your side of the atlantic.

btw, regarding the dates. here in sweden we have a holiday that translates exactly into thanksgiving in october. unless i'm mistaken the canadians celebrate it in october as well.

i was supposed to become an exchange student and move to california for a year back in 08, so i had to learn all kinds of american customs and stuff. guess some of it got stuck.

Second of December.

Oh yes, well depends on the family I suppose. Growing up thanksgiving was a family event. As I got older though I decided that I had just as much to be thankful for from some of my close friends as I do my family. So my personal addition to tradition is to have both come over for Thanksgiving.

It does tend to be subdued, my grandparents are in their 80s and aren't exactly what I call "partiers."

It's my understanding that the Netherlands also have a similar holiday in october if I remember correctly.

Supposed to? So you didn't make it? Hmm... not sure you missed much. :bolian::rommie:

Yes, December 2nd. And don't worry Damar, I'm the same way sometimes. I tend to get sudden inspiration and finish it early in the month, or do a cram session the night before the deadline. lol

^ Nah, I'd didn't make it. A roadside IED took care of those plans. The guy I knew and was supposed to stay with (My best friends half-brother) lost his life while deployed in Iraq. And after that, it didn't seem so fun anymore...

But my classmate is trying to talk me into going autumn 2011. We'll see if I decide to join her. Going back an fourth at the moment. Can't really decide.

I'm sorry to hear that. If you still speak to the family pass on the condolences of an former soldier. (I was in the signal corps actually, but the army is the army.)

And I suppose there are a great many things of interest here, things just haven't seemed so great over the past decade or so. Not what I'd call a superb start to the new millennium anyway.

Thank you for the reminder and the kind words. I'm on just over a thousand words (yep, I'm a slow starter:lol:) but I think I've got my stride now.

Maybe if I got a beta reader that might help erase my worries slightly?

I will. I actually spoke to his wife and mother a few days ago over skype. His brother a few hours ago.

Go ahead and open a thread. There's nothing saying you cant, and I'm sure we can round up a few people to give their opinions.

Yup, thats exactly what i mean. I know I've done it in the past.

If you don't want to do that, I'd be happy to look at it myself. I can PM you my email in that case.

Hmm, maybe the latter if that's okay? I don't want to spoil the surprise for everyone else.;)

I'm mostly worried about how it reads so far, if there is anything that I need to change to make it better excreta.

Thank you.

I know you'll probably get tons of requests now, but would you be willing to look at mine as well? Please?

lol. fine... Damars was free, but I'm charging you. 5 million dollars.

jk, i'll send my email in a moment.

It cerainly is!

Last year, we went to the house of the parents of a friend (and youth pastor) from church. I remember--that was the first time I ever personally saw a turkey getting deep-fried!

Anyway...Thanksgiving basically celebrates the struggles our forefathers went through upon founding the colonies that would become America...and the rewards they reaped for their sacrifice.

Shame, that so many here seem to treat it as "just" a feast, with no real meaning. *sigh*
