The debut of Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes is tonight. I loved the mini-eps and am really looking forward to watching it tonight when I get home from work.

It would be great if this was the star of a larger Marvel AU along the lines of the old DCAU.

Post your thoughts here.

ETA: DAMN IT! I wanted to include a poll! :scream:

I am really, really looking forward to watching this when I get off work tonight. I loved the vignettes, so this feels promising.

I enjoyed it. It combined a few classic storylines to give the Avengers a threat(s) that actually challenges them.

The theme song pretty much sucks. Not as as bad at the theme for the 90s FF cartoon, but close.

I'm watching it now and will give my thoughts when it's finished, as has been discussed before the voice actor playing Tony seems to have modeled his voice after Robert Downey Jr right to the quirky mannerisms. I agree the theme song isn't great.

i thought it was really good. all the appearances by b and d list villains was great. thought it was kinda funny that Iron Man attacked Hawkeye, seeing as how he started out as a villain in Tales of Suspense.

looks like next episode Enchantress will be acting in a manner that the Space Phantom served in Avengers #2.

I like the theme song, even though it's not a style of music I generally like. The lyrics are kind of weak, but I like the melody and chord progressions.

Theme song kinda reminded me of something from the late 90s, but eh, it's alright. I wouldn't mind if they just dumped the goofy lyrics. Maybe just kept the "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE!" part here and there. That's about the only good part of it. Been waiting a very long time to hear "AVENGERS ASSEMBLE" on TV - and properly. Not "hero up." gah. I truly hope that SHS never comes back.

Although one thing that sort of... I dunno, makes me feel a bit iffy is the whole Iron Man as leader thing. I know in New Avengers he was sort of a de facto leader when Cap wasn't around and then of course when he took over SHIELD, but I dunno... I'm hoping that when Cap comes around, they'll make him the leader of the Avengers like they did in the comics. With Tony being basically the money and tech guy and sort of the second in command.

Although given that Iron Man is the one with two successful movies and a load of popularity right now... but I hope it's not like Super Hero Squad where he's sort of the big cheese.

And y'know someone on YouTube commented that Iron Man sounds like a cross between Jack Black and RDJr... and y'know I think that's not far off. After watching Pick of Destiny the other night on Comedy Central... lol... yeah pretty close.

Breakout really was a pretty decent story, I liked that it sort of showed just what they can do. Pym was pretty decent in his switching back and forth from Ant Man to Giant Man. And I'm loving the Wasp. She's pretty damn close to the Janet VanDyne from the comics. Thor was spot on. Hulk was a perfect 60s era Hulk. Sure he was still a slightly mono syllabic brute that went "GRAAAAGGGHHHHH!!!" a lot, but he actually had some personality.

Considering they had Planet Hulk on right before Avengers:EMH the two Hulks were pretty similar really. You could kind of see Planet Hulk being a far later story to EMH. Both had him as a brute, but he did have some intelligence and wasn't just "Hulk like beans. Hulk no have no more beans? Then HULK WILL SMASH! GRRRAAAAGGHHH!"

The voice animation (at least the guy who played the villain) was subpar. He sounded like he was reading off a script (oops, wait!). It was non-threatening, and he sounded more like an annoying drunk.

Hulk speaks perfect English? Wow. Janet Pym was annoying as a bug.

Animation quality looks fine.

I didn't like the theme song either.

Thank god this Hulk is intelligent, I'm so sick of the big dumb brute version.

One thing that struck me about the final "micro-episode" was when Whirlwind was identified as a mutant and Nick Fury said to contact the MRD and "let the Mardies deal with it." Now, I know (because I just looked it up) that the MRD does exist in the comics, but I'm wondering if that was meant to suggest that TA:EMH takes place in the same continuity as Wolverine and the X-Men. And an earlier short did have a cameo by a "Howlett" who was voiced by Steve Blum, though that doesn't prove anything, since Marvel uses a lot of actors consistently across projects in different continuities (for instance, Alex Desert is Fury here and on Iron Man: Armored Adventures, and Fred Tatasciore is Hulk in everything recent except Planet Hulk).

^ That's possible, I noticed that as well but the series is probably in it's own continuity. Didn't they say at comic con (San Diego) that there was a chance that Spider-Man would appear in the series at some point?

I really enjoyed it. Lots of references to Marvel stuff, interesting combination of Nick Furies I thought and they made it work. Loved that they have Maria Hill, the scene between Jane Foster and Thor before he gets called to Asgard was really cute. Good thing I didn't watch all of the micro episodes before hand or else I would have already seen this I guess.

No idea, but it makes sense. The reason The Spectacular Spider-Man was (tragically) cancelled was because Marvel/Disney took the TV rights to Spidey back from Sony in exchange for letting them keep the movie rights. So that means they should be free to use Spidey and all his characters in this show. Though with a new Ultimate Spider-Man series being developed, I wonder if that would cross over or be in a separate continuity.

It's odd that all the Marvel shows lately seem to be in unconnected realities, given that the Marvel Universe has always been defined by its interconnectedness, and given that the movies are building a shared reality now. I mean, the Marvel cartoons in the '90s had crossovers; the FOX Spider-Man and X-Men were overtly in continuity with each other, as were the syndicated Iron Man and FF and apparently the later syndicated Hulk as well. Although continuity between the FOX and syndicated shows was ambiguous; Iron Man and War Machine showed up on Spider-Man voiced by their performers from the syndicated show, but when the FF showed up on S-M, there was only one voice in common with the syndie version. And there was no clear indication of continuity one way or the other (since as the current Marvel shows make clear, shared voices don't mean shared continuity).

Oh, you mean the combination of elements from classic and Ultimate Nick Fury. Took me a moment.

In the Cap flashback micro-episodes, there was a character who looked and sounded like Fury and who led the Howling Commandoes, but Cap called him "Jack" rather than "Nick." So maybe he's Nick Fury's grandfather instead of Nick himself. Is that something from the Ultimate universe, or is it new to this show?

Loved that they have Maria Hill, the scene between Jane Foster and Thor before he gets called to Asgard was really cute.

I have no prior familiarity with the character of Maria Hill. What strikes me is that she's played by Kari Wuhrer.

Let's see, other cast members of interest to me:

Jeffrey Combs as the Leader (he was fantastic here).
Phil LaMarr as Jarvis and Wonder Man.
Mark Hamill as Ulysses Klaw.
Clancy Brown as Odin (and I think he was Crusher Creel in the micro-eps, though Creel is Rick D. Wasserman in the series).
Lance Henriksen as the Grim Reaper.
Steven Blum as the Red Skull.

Also Scott Menville as Bucky -- interesting because he also played Robin on Teen Titans, meaning he's played both major companies' seminal and iconic teen sidekicks. Plus he did an interesting job, making Bucky a very different character from TT's Robin (though his Bucky characterization would've worked well for a more conventional version of Dick Grayson).

Maria Hill became a major player during the Civil War / Initiative years of Marvel Comics, she wasn't introduced until the New Avengers in 2004 though.

About the Hulk speaking normally, he could do that in the early stories as well. And during "Planet Hulk" he spoke normally too.

Wow. That was good.

I think I'm in love with this version of the Wasp. It made me realize how much I've missed Jan since the end of Secret Invasion. :wah:

I think that using a semi-intelligent Hulk makes more sense than a savage Hulk if he is going to sticking around for a while.

My guess is that Loki is the one who caused the breakout as a way to keep Thor distracted during the Odinsleep.

i dunno if i would pin it on Loki just yet. you have a lot of villains working their own agendas. Loki, Kang, the Leader, Von Strucker...

I find this Wasp a little too girlish in appearance and voice, and I'm not crazy about the character design, particularly that weird sticky-uppy hair on the sides. I also wish they weren't being so slavish to the original team composition, because I think there should be more women on the team. I wish they'd bring in someone like Scarlet Witch or Ms. Marvel, or both. (Just as long as Wanda weren't wearing that bizarre, hideous headdress that went under her chin.)

i hate Jan's hair too. seeing as how she was always changing hair and costume in the comics i hope the cartoon can reflect a bit of that.

I assume the villain with ice powers was the Blizzard. Though the design used looked more like DC's Captain Cold.
