Commercials that Fail

This commercial kept me from buying Barq's root beer for more than ten years:

That's because you should be buying IBC. :bolian: Or Stewart's. :techman: Not Barq's, bah.

Pretty much all adverts that attempt to sell a product to men.

Haha, wow... not even tryign to be subtle.

Is it bad that I want the girl more than the Sprite?

I'm going to go in with "Virtually Every Old Navy Commercial Made, Ever."

They had one run featuring Carrie Donovan and the current one with the talking store mannequins are just bizzare and I'm not sure how they're supposed to convince me to buy a $60 polo shirt.

It's like you have to be high to understand their commercials.

Yeah, but the Gap ads are sensational. Hard to believe they have the same parent company and are trying to sell to the same demographic.

The Burger King ads with that creepy King is a real turn off. It's an epic fail for me. Remember a few years ago when Quiznos did those ads with these weird rat looking creatures? It made me never want to eat there again. They were weird and gross. I don't think that campaign lasted all that long.

SPONG MONKEYS! AAAAAHH!:scream::brickwall::barf:

All those erectile dysfunction commercials that spend more time telling me I shouldn't use their product than what the product actually does. Seriously, for those like Cialas, Viagra, Lipotor, they spend so much time saying what makes it so bad that I forget what it actually does.

-On radio, anything from the Ad Council. There is one that features the movie "Where the Wild Things are" and late night it's repeated so much it's freaking annoying. Those, and the Free Credit report commercials (I think I know the damn jingle by heart now.)

Here's a LINK to the full commercial. (Not posting it here as it's SFW cotnent is... dubious although no direct nudity is shown it's a bit explicit.) I'm not sure on the language but it sounds Germanian to me and typically European countries are bit more liberal when it comes to sexual content in commercials but it seems this one was banned over there. I've really got to wonder what Coke was thinking with this commercial and how they thought it'd sell more Sprite.

^^^^

Thanks Nardpuncher and Skywalker.

And you just use the link in your address bar, the one you used to get to video in the firstplace by going through YouTube/Google. You don't need to use the special "embeded link" or other links provided on the page by YT. Just use the link from your address bar.

:wtf: Wow. Yeah, I'm afraid that won't get me to drink more Sprite. Though the girl is still :techman:

Semi-relatedly, it led me to this

Strangely enough, I don't care for Stewart's root beer--though I really like just about everything else they make. Those are true premium soft drinks.

Anyway--for the past twelve years, I have been studying and working on university campuses where Coca-Cola has purchased a monopoly.

As a consequence, I am sick to death of just about every Coca-Cola product--except Barq's root beer.

The seething hatred inspired by that commercial ensured that I wouldn't start drinking the stuff until I had first exhausted every other possibility.

There's a commercial for some dating website where the woman searching is a redhead and goes into a fantasy after seeing some guy where they're in a bedroom with candles and they approach each other dramatically just to collide. It gets dumber from there...

Oh, and the Ask Gary commercials, "A medical and lawyer referral service," for car accident victims, which feature people talking about not wanting to get into a car accident...AS THEY ARE DRIVING!

When local commercials go bad..

Red House Furniture features products for both Blacks and Whites.

(BTW - how do you embed a video in a post?)

That can't be serious! If it is though, even better.

its like those Tim & Eric guys from Adult Swim made the ad!? :wtf:

There was an obnoxious radio ad for McDonald's that pretty much stated outright that only fruity, unAmerican wimps who like foreign films get fancy coffees at Starbucks. Real guys, who like football and high-fiving, drink plain old McDonald's coffee.

What was really galling was the way the ad took for granted that preferring foreign films to football was a Bad Thing . . . .

Amen. Also the b.s. situations they put the attractive middle aged couples through... walking on the beach, sitting in bathtubs watching the sunset.
The one with Mike Ditka throwing the football through the tire swing always made me :wtf:. Way too much info Mike. Way too much.
Also the band old old guys singing playing the Elvis type some about viagra...

I don't know if this fails as such, though I'm not sure why a cheese brand would be called Panda. Even so, it's hilarious
