Favourite Doctor

Your top three!

  • Total voters
    88
Troughton
McGann

... and although I wouldn't normally vote for a current Doctor ...

Smith

Why's Matt only a provision verdict? We have as much to judge by as Eccleston??

Eccleston's finished. Smith's going to do more, so (god forbid) he might mess up later rather than getting even better.
I'd rate Pertwee a lot higher if he'd only done season seven and never developed his 'patronising uncle' streak; similarly, even though I still put McCoy bottom, there's a world of difference between the buffoon of season 24 and the dark presence of Ghost Light. And I've got fan friends who love early Tom, but hate the goggle-eyed clown of his later seasons.
A Doctor ain't over till he's over. Fingers crossed, Matt Smith might move from bronze to gold..

Throwaway thought: I reckon Troughton is doing well because we were asked to name three favourite Doctors, not just one - that a lot of people's list is 'My first one, then Troughton, then..."

Tom Baker's certainly my favourite, but thereafter it's any two of three from Pertwee, Smith & Tennant....

GM

Davison, McGann, and Eccleston, the three best-- and not coincidentally, I suspect, three who have achieved status as actors outside of their Who work. Hartnell, Troughton, Tennant, and Smith are all bubbling just beneath.

Baker was my first Dr.Who so a vote for him.

I only just began (bought the dvds yesterday) NuWho with Eccleston, so he gets a vote too :techman:

You voted for the wrong Baker ... C Baker = great! T Baker = he's just ok. ;)

Favorite: Jon Pertwee.

Runner-up: Richard Hurndall. (Yes, you read that right. ;) )

Runner-up to the runner-up: Peter Davison.

Troughton is doing so well because he was a great Doctor. What a shame so many of his episodes are gone forever. But I know I might just have to get comicon tickets for next year and dust off my award winning Troughton costume.

Quite right. But he often loses out in Top Doc polls because he's the second favourite Doctor for masses of people.

Well that was my thinking behind making people choose more than one, well not directly that Troughton would get loads of votes (though I suspected) but I thought we'd get a better spread. Given how little of his era remains it says an awful lot that he got so many votes though :techman:

Good point...now you've made me worry though, what if he goes rubbish! That is a v good point about McCoy though.

Still Pertwee, and still by a considerable margin.

The more Troughton episodes I see, though, the more I wish more of those episodes still existed.

Davison is still my third favourite.

Then Hartnell, Smith and Eccleston, more or less level pegging.

I don't much care after that. Tom Baker featured in a number of my favourite serials but I never much cared for his interpretation of the role, particularly toward the end. Colin Baker had too much crap to work with and one telemovie wasn't enough to properly assess McGann.

McCoy was awful and Tennant was even worse. Both of them made Who unwatchable for me.

Silly me jumped in and just voted for Colin before noticing I had three votes. The other two would have gone to McGann and either Trout or Tom (probably Trout).

I think my full ranking at the moment goes:

Colin
McGann
Trout
Tom
McCoy
Smith
Pertwee
Hartnell
Tennant
Davison
Eccleston

As I say, Trout and Tom may sometimes switch places, as is the case with McCoy/Smith and Pertwee/Hartnell/Tennant.
