Joss Whedon to direct The Avengers

^That's ScarJo? Hemsworth looks totally different from when he was in Star Trek as well.

I totally forgot that Renner was Hawkeye.

Speculate. When Nick Fury first discovered Thor's hammer, was Fury thinking potential threat or was he thinking new recruit for the Avengers?

Then Fury takes out his lightsaber with "B.A.M.F" engraved on it(Sam Jackson does own a lightsaber with those initials)

So Black Widow is the only girl of the bunch? Were there no other superheroines they could add or are their movie rights at other studios?

There are a few I can think of, but in terms of keeping the cast small, I'm not surprised there's only one. I'm a bit surprised they opted to add Hawkeye, actually - I was expecting just the solo film stars plus Black Widow.

Although most of the other really notable female heroes related to the Avengers franchise are distaff counterparts to male heroes (She-Hulk, Wasp, Ms. Marvel), which would make introducing them somewhat more time-consuming, perhaps.

Mockingbird, maybe, but she'd be pretty much indistinguishable from Black Widow.

I have nothing against Black Widow, but Wasp should be in the movie. And I can't imagine that any other studio would have the rights to Wasp.

Wasp would only really make sense if Ant-Man/Giant-Man/Yellowjacket was in the film too, and he isn't. I'm not surprised the studio didn't see the need; they've never been nearly as prominent or important as the others.

But there's still Wright's Ant-Man film in the works, so perhaps they're waiting on that.

Hank Pym could/should be a character in The Avengers. Who else will be the team's resident scientist?

Is Ant-Man about Hank Pym, Scott Lang or someone else?

They have Iron Man to handle the tech stuff (particularly since it's highly unlikely the films will get into the really far-out stuff that's somewhat outside Tony's normal expertise.

The concept that Wright has talked about was about both, with Pym in a sort of 60s-retro sci-fi and Lang in the present. We haven't heard much new about the film in a while, other than that it's still going to happen, so it's possible the concept will change.

Wasp and Ant-Man won't be in this? Too bad, I liked someone's suggestion of Morena Baccarin as Janet.

So, who will be the villains? Baron Zemo and the Masters? Kang? Skrulls? Namor? Ultron?

Probably not casted or even written in yet. Black Widow is only in now because Shea already been established as a S.H.E.I.L.D. agent in Iron Man 2. Maybe Hawkeye will be established later on in Thor or Captain America. Hopefully same goes for The Wasp and Hank Pym.

I would guess they're going to do the Loki/Hulk story.

We know he's not in Thor (they've already shot that film), and Captain America wouldn't really present any opportunity to do that.

But his intro would take ten seconds: "This is Agent Barton, our best marksman." That's really all you need with him.

Huh, Black Widow as a SHIELD agent.

I guess that means we'll never have Mockingbird in the movies then, since her thing was being a former SHIELD agent gone freelance til she married Clint and became and Avenger.

Then again, these days she's formed her own mini-SHIELD organization to fill in the void left by SHEILD's collapse. So maybe they can use that for the SHIELD movie?

It's a shame some characters like Norman Osborne and other Thunderbolts/Dark Avengers characters are tied up to the other studios like Sony and Fox. Although so many untapped villains need to be showcased, which I understand. I wonder whatever story they do come up with is tied to The Mandarin and the Ten Rings organization for IM3 and set them up better to making them a major threat than IM2 did.
