Barefoot Bandit Caught!

Gibraltar

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
The real-life star of his own personal Catch Me If You Can odyssey was finally apprehended in the Bahamas after a crime spree that spanned the continental United States and then extended into the Caribbean.

http://abcnews.go.com/International/wireStory?id=11136202

This kid is going to spend the next twenty years of his life bouncing from jail to prison to jail in county after county, state after state… the ultimate in diesel therapy.

Love the mom's comment that she hoped he fled to a country without an extradition treaty with the U.S. Guess you don't have to wonder where he gets it.

On a marginally related note, I've been to that particular island in the Bahamas several times. Wonder why he chose there ....

I'll never understand why people are out there pulling for him to get away, or why he is considered a hero. If he stole your boat, plane, or wallet would you root him on?? I hope this useless dipshit gets all the jail time he deserves. Real men are fighting for their country on foreign soil, but somehow the barefoot dimwit is a folk hero

I get the impression that that island was just the latest stop, rather than chosen according to any plan. He'd crash-landed on Great Abaco in a plane which he'd stolen in Indiana, committed several burglaries there before stealing a yacht which was later recovered by the local authorities at Eleuthera. There, the kid committed more burglaries, vandalized several boats and was sighted several times.

There's a little more detail in this story.

If it's a black kid stealing cars and going from city to city breaking into houses while armed with a gun (the kid had a gun when they caught him) somehow I don't think the people on his facebook fan page would feel the same.

Oh, but white kid stealing cars, boats, crashing airplanes and breaking into a ton of houses with stolen property and damages over the 2 million mark and people make f&cking t-shirts!

That just angers me. I only can be calmed by the fact that the people that "cheer" for him are idiot teenagers just like this barefoot loser and that a side effect of having a society with extremely smart people in it is that there also has to be extremely stupid people. I guess it is a fair trade off.

I wonder, will he be extradited to the United States or will the Bahamas give him a trial and make him serve time for everything he stole and damaged over there first before they hand him over?

People love underdogs and outlaws.

People still romanticize Bonnie and Clyde. In reality they were nothing but thugs that drove around shooting, stealing and were members of a gang responsible for killing numerous police officers in a number of shootouts.

Outlaws appeal to the masses anger/resentment toward the establishment, to the rules and authority that dictates to them. However, where outlaws get romanticized, criminals get ostracized.

Yup. Maybe everyone that had something stolen or destroyed by this loser should track down all his "fans" on facebook and start smashing up their stuff. See how they like it then.

I wonder how big his pathetic "following" would be if the guy was a toothless, 55 years old, bald guy? (Same crimes but a different guy.) I'm going to go out on a limb here and suggest... not so much :p

The Bahamas says he'll stand trial for crimes there, serve his sentence, then be extradited to the US, where he's going to be tried in God knows how many counties across about a dozen states.

This dude's going to be balding and paunchy before he ever sees open skies overhead again.

Sounds good to me. The trial and build up to the trials alone will take up a good amount of time and you know they aren't going to be granting him any bail. So he gets to sit in prison from now until who knows when.

I hadn't even heard about him until he was caught...

Maybe we'll get another Disney movie starring Zac Efron out of this

Yeah, but now imagine the following if he was a hot chick.

He might be up for some crimes in British Columbia too...

(Of course, you don't want to send him here. The judge will just give him a light slap on the wrist and a cookie.)

. . . People still romanticize Bonnie and Clyde. In reality they were nothing but thugs that drove around shooting, stealing and were members of a gang responsible for killing numerous police officers in a number of shootouts.
And they weren't anywhere near as good-looking as Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty.
. . . Outlaws appeal to the masses anger/resentment toward the establishment, to the rules and authority that dictates to them. However, where outlaws get romanticized, criminals get ostracized.
So basically the difference between a criminal and an outlaw is good PR.

Well, of course he got caught. How far could he run with no shoes on?

(Runs and ducks behind heavy piece of furniture)
