Which Dominion Member is Your Favorite?

I'm kind of shocked that only 4 people have voted for the Jem'Hadar so far. I really thought more people liked them.

Anyways, the Jem'Hadar are my favorite. Then the Vorta... then the Founders... and then the Cardassians. The other two aliens are just cannon fodder races to me. They really don't count seeing they are both sort of dorky and had never been fleshed out within the series.

Humans are silly, silly creatures.

The Breen were comic geniuses.
Yeah, who can ever forget the comedy stylings of Thot Gor?

Yeah, those wacky Breen! They sure do keep the one-liners coming!

Anyway, for me, it's a toss up between the Cardassians and the Vorta. I'll go with the Cardassians because it's tough for Weyoun, as awesome as he is, to go up against the trifecta of Dukat, Damar and Garak...and the secondary Cardassians & Vorta we have met are all pretty equal in my book (well okay...Tain was awesome too!)

It was a toss-up between the Founders and the Jem'Hadar, but I picked the Jem'Hadar. They're just so bad-ass and it's amazing that the Founders could genetically engineer them to not only fight within days of their emergence, but that speech and intelligence were also bred into them. I also feel for a race turned into soldier-slaves, addicted to a substance, yet they are the most honorable of the Dominion, following their rigid code, "Victory is life." Plus, Clarence Williams III played one!

I voted for Cardassians because they're one of my favorite alien races. Individually, I would have to go with the Weyoun who defected (Weyoun 6?) as a favorite character. I thought it was sweet how devoted he was to Odo. Also, he's the only Vorta that can think for himself.

Wow, I didn't think Cardassians could lose on this forum! :cardie:

Don't worry, its merely a trap within a trap leading to another trap that will deliver ultimate victory to the Union...

WHOA, WHAT'S THAT OVER THERE! LOOK...

(well, it was worth a try:alienblush:)

Vorta!

They are multi faceted. They can appear almost trustworthy yet at the same time they are so treacherous. Weyoun really stood out. If weyoun was never written then I'm not sure that Vorta would be my choice.

The Changelings were brilliant. I wish we'd seen more of them taking other people's places. I think they influenced future shows like BSG and V 2010 with the "they are among us" paranoia concept

I picked the Founders, because making the Founders Odo's people was a brilliant choice that pretty much defined the following five seasons of the show and was one of the main reasons the Dominion was able to remain a compelling adversary for such an extended period.

The Vorta and the Jem'Hadar are both very cool, but the Founder's link to Odo is what makes the Dominion more than just an antagonist and military threat: they are also "part of the family" in a sense, just like Dukat (for different reasons).

For me one of the defining scenes in DS9 is the meeting between Dukat, Weyoun and Damar on the one hand, and Kira, Odo and Quark on the other, at the end of Call to Arms. On the one hand, this is a meeting of arch-enemies, on the other hand, it's like a family reunion. "You, me, the Major... together again," as Dukat says. And, of course, Weyoun's deference to Odo, a factor that would be entirely lacking if not for his link to the Founders.

Had to go with the Vorta. They had a pretty cool look, cool demeanor and implanted devices to record their memories - making them immortal.

It's almost a given that the Hunters and Tosk are part of the dominion too - though the nature of the Tosk precludes them as actual member races. The Tosk appear to be noble version of the Jem Hadar who are programmed to relish their role - which is nothing other than to provide prey for the Hunters. It's a good bet that the Hunters serve the Dominion by hunting down rogue Jem Hadar - which is why the Tosk have much the same abilities. It keeps the Hunters happy and trains them to excel in the role the Founders use them in.

Wow, that's an interesting idea! If I remember correctly the Hunters were supposed to serve as ship navigators, one was even supposed to appear in some episode (but for some reason didn't). But hunting rogue Jem'Hadar seems very plausible.

As for the poll, it's incredibly hard to choose between the Founders, Vorta and Jem'Hadar (I like the Cardassians but I don't really see them as members of the Dominion). But I'll go with the Founders. They're the bosses, after all.

That isn't my idea, actually. It's been floating around for awhile.

That's cool. I'd like to see the Hunters go head to head with the Hirogen, given that the Hirogen (non-canonically, but it makes sense because of the nomadic nature of the Hirogen that they would run into the Dominion some times) view the Jem'Hadar as worthy prey and the Hunters make worthy adversaries for the Jem'Hadar. It'd be an interesting contest.
I still say the Vorta are my favorite, but if the Hunters had appeared in more episodes and had more backstory that might have changed.

The Hirogen were THE badasses outside of species 8472 and would have wasted the Hunters of the Dominion.

I think you have it backward in saying the Hunters make worthy adversaries for the Jem'Hadar - The Jem Hadar are worthy prey of the Hunters.

The Female Shapeshifter. The one real absolute sociopath on the show. A Nazi like alien who used and enslaved other aliens to do the Founders bidding. The Female Shapeshifter had no morals when it came to killing of enslaving solids, but she was a complete hypocrite when she went on about, "A Changling has never hurt another Changling," bit.

I also loved to hate her because she came across a lot of times as very motherly, and had something of a sweet calming voice. Very matronly. I went to a private elementary school whose owner/headmaster had this kind of personality. She would tell her staff and the children that she loved and cared about them, but had no problems punishing them with a belt for very minor offenses. She wanted you to fear her, and by fearing her, you loved her. (She was Catholic by the way.)

Louise Fletcher could have done her also, but Fletcher was much prettier and did not have the face for it. I looked up Salome Jens Wiki article where it was stated that she was born in Milwaukee Wisconsin, and stated that she would kill herself if forced by circumstances to go back there. Strange (look it up).

Close for me between the Vorta and Cardassians, though I voted for the latter. Weyoun made the Vorta much more interesting, but the Cardassians have a very compelling backstory, as well as a far greater number of interesting characters. Plus, it was easier to understand their position: once a Great Power in the AQ, reduced to near irrelevancy before joining the Dominion, then getting pushed aside and eventually nearly annihilated for ultimately acting in their own best interests. They ended being (almost) sympathetic villians. I like the notion of a future of improved relations between many AQ factions and their erstwhile bitter enemy. Perhaps there will be room for eventual close relations with the Bajorans — similar, perhaps, to the new era of relations between France and the FRG since WWII.

Both are correct...but the point I was trying to make is that the Hunters can take on the Jem'Hadar and hold their own if not wipe the floor with them. If they can take the Jem'Hadar, they would definitely have a chance against the Hirogen. I don't think the Hunters would have been 'wasted'...I think it would be a lot closer than that.

I chose the Founders. The ability to change into just about anything you wanted to, would be incredible fun. I would try not to be a bigot towards the solids.

I voted Cardassians, but if they weren't listed (I never felt they were truly Dominion part) I think I would vote for the Vorta. They were slimy, clever liars ;)

I like Jem'Hadar too, some of them were cleaver fellows, even likable. I'd expect killing machines to be mute and stupid, but those guys reminded me a bit of Klingons, with their honour and lack of fear of death.

Cardassians--because they're awesome anyway, and because they got smart and rebelled when nobody ever thought they could do it. Well, do it they did!
