Ugh. The only people more creatively bankrupt than Loeb are the Wayan brothers. Although, there's a slim possibility that this might be a good thing if Loeb becomes so busy with the logistics of his new position that he doesn't actually have time to produce content himself.

People are now angry that the guy who developed Buffy Animated and Heroes is now working his magic for Marvel?
But he hasn't done any tv work for them. All he has done is write a load of horrible comics.

Loeb has the same disease that other good TV writers have: He doesn't realize that comics are their own medium! Look at all the great screenwriters who have written shitty comics: Kevin Smith, JMS, Joss Whedon, the kid from "Lost".....keep these guys away from my comics!
I would call Joss' X-Men mediocre at best. His characterizations were waaaaay off. And JMS' runs on Spidey and Thor were just plain weak. Spider-Totem? Please!
Loeb has written some fantastic comics over the years, though. Superman for all Seasons, Batman: The Long Halloween, his Legends of the Dark Knight Halloween specials. Maybe the difference is that they all have Tim Sale as a collaborator, but their Marvel work together hasn't clicked with me as much. (Though I think the preview issue for Captain America: White, which has now become vaporware, was the first time I ever really cared about Captain America.) Loeb can write comics and write them well. I'm not familiar with his more recent work, but he does have a track record of success.

And at the same time he fleshed out Peter and his family as characters in a way no-one else had even tried to do. He took them from stuck in a timewarp caricatures to realistic people.
I will always maintain that The Long Halloween would not be as fondly remembered as it is now without Sale's art. On its own, as written, The Long Halloween is a somewhat non-sensical murder "mystery," which in actuality is little more than an excuse for Loeb to play with all the toys in the sandbox and awkwardly shoehorn-in cameos of every character he can fit. It's the same story that Loeb has been writing ever since, such as with Dark Victory, Hush and Red Hulk (and we won't get into the abomination of his work with The Ultimates).

While the villain in Whedon's X-Men was boring, I felt like I was reading the X-Men for the first time since 1991.
With JMS's SM, yes, the Spider-totem was lame. But the characters again read like real people to me for the first time in years.

Let's be fair. Loeb stabbed the Ultimate Universe in the taint, but let's see what he turns out before declaring it a destruction of the Marvel Universe.

Whereas I'm only familiar with his more recent work, having never read any of those older titles. From what I have seen, Loeb's writing ranges from "shoddy Saturday morning cartoon" (Hulk) to "unspeakable abomination" (Ultimatum). If this man was ever a good writer, he has long since been utterly depleted.
