Are you unstructured? -Do you often forget the simple things like putting in a warm one whenever you take out a cold one? -Is your fridge the size of a shoebox but you have access to unlimited amounts of ice? -Do you suffer from ADD?

If any of the above, you might want this -otherwise utterly ridiculous- product:

I actually think I want one :guffaw:

This may be a really dumb question, but isn't the beer/soda/whatever going to go shooting out when you open the can/bottle? I mean, isn't this kind of like shaking a bottle of beer?

Best way to speed chill that stuff is to put it in a cooler of ice and alternate mixing rock salt with the ice. Be careful as the contents of the can/bottle will definitely freeze if left for longer than 35 minutes.

^This is a two to four minute chill! -that's the great thing about it!

Now, when it comes to shilling a few six-packs the time and amount of ice needed would favour your method, but when you've just come home with a warm supply of beer and are thirsty right now - this product seems the fastest way for you to get a cold one -emphasis on the one...

The company (watch the video) makes a big deal out of how this is not the case - I suppose it's right; shaking and 'turning' a can(/bottle) are different things.

    That seems really inefficient.

^Actually, dousing with icy water is a pretty effective way to cool something down!

    Not very energy effective though.

No what i meant is that it can only cool one can or one bottle at a time.

I've been using this trick for years, except with the can or bottle upright, sometimes I spin it by hand but I've also used a cordless drill chucked with a sanding pad.

Occassionally the method gets mentioned in mechanical engineering (heat transfer) courses. What's happening is that the rotation is spinning the fluid inside the can or bottle (in addition to spinning the fluid outside of it) so instead of depending on conduction to slowly equalize the temperature, you are adding a huge amount of convection. A rapidly moving fluid will transport heat much faster than a still fluid, so your beer gets cold in just a minute or two.

Ah, but tell me: how many cans do you drink at a time? ;)

Then you'd need one of those machines for each place setting -and a truckload of ice :rommie:

Or you could just put a few cases of beer in the fridge a couple hours before the party of course.

I think it'd be far more entertaining to have spinny-drink-chiller-things at each spot at the table.

    I have a better idea.

buy cold beer at the store, then take it home and keep it in your fridge. that way when you're ready to drink it, it's already cold.

But suppose a giant monster rises from the ocean and causes you a twelve-hour traffic delay getting home?

When that happens (and it happens more than the press will admit), place your first beer in bucket of ice. Next, spin it between your hands or keep twirling it around with your fingers and thumb by flicking the neck, keeping the rotation going in the same direction. It will coast easily between spins if the bottom is resting on an ice cube, some slush, or if it's almost floating. In just a minute or two the beer will be ice cold.

umm, just drink the beer while it's like, still cold and stuff.

it'll help pass the time while you're stuck in traffic.

    traffic sucks.

NO!!!! Then you're the drunk dude in the unbuttoned flannel shirt who gets out of his car, gapes at the giant sea monster destroying the city, and screams as a giant reptilian foot smashes him into an ink-blot in the middle of I-95.

I also used to use that one quite a bit. Just ice down the rest of the beer for later and set the one you want to drink now on its side in a pocket on top of the ice, spinning it on its long axis with your fingers in much the same way the machine does in the video. Can or bottle, it'll be ice-cold and ready to go in about three minutes.

Now, of course, I simply make sure it's chilled well in advance. :techman:
