Arex coming to Phase II!

By the way, loving the full schedule for Phase II! In terms of Trek enjoyment, this is going to be a very good year! :D

That looks really nice. The nose and brow area are obviously different, the neck thicker, but its' an interesting adaptation of the original design. And are those ears (of a sort) on the bony projections on the sides of his head?

I really appreciate the effort put into bringing the character to life after so long. That's something I never thought I'd see. Look forward to seeing more and hearing how Chris Doohan's performance compares to his father's.

I would like to echo this. What a wonderful endeavor.

I, too, see that he's different from the animated character, but also think this "adaptation" is great, and especially makes sense if there is an actual person below latex, rather than it being fully CGI. I honestly can't tell for sure. And I am VERY MUCH looking forward to seeing Arex in the ... er ... flesh? ;-)

I think that, as a non-Phase II person who is also enjoying this... I'd like to remind people that these fan films are ALL done based on donations.

I thought it was kind of funny how James posted this on his facebook page and then the next day trekmovie has it up. Haven't watched the videos yet.

Can,t wait to see Arex lets hope JJ see,s it and puts him in the next feature film we need more trek aliens . Well done phase 2 i,ve missed that three armed and three legged navigation officer !!!

Fantastic!!!!! Getting Chris Doohan to do the voice is so cool!

It is an amazing effect. My issues are not with Phase II, but with The Animated Series. The size of the skull is too small for an intelligent being in biology as we know it.

I never gotten the feeling that Arex of TAS had too small a brain case.

My customized M'Ress and Arex. On reflection, my custom probably needed more brain case, but Arex in TAS was fine!

Ah! Just read on James' Facebook page that the new Arex has lost his tripodal features. (I guess the CGI would have cost an arm and a leg.)

Haw haw haw!

It's not Arex without three arms and three legs!
If they're not gonna do him properly, why bother?

Dreams crushed :(

Still hoping that JJ's peeps will see the light in time for STXII...

Mind you, he only has two arms after "New Frontier: Treason"... unless the Doc performed a miracle.

I have an old late 70s/early 80s fanzine here that featured a rare appearance by Lt Arex - and the editor and artist of the zine briefly discuss how they drew him with a modified look because they didn't care for his tripodal appearance. I hadn't noticed at first, because he'd been drawn leaning against a wooden fence on an alien farm.

How do we know if Arex has a brain in his head? Spock's heart is supposed to be near his armpit.

Not sure I see the point of adding Arex if you aren't going to do him the way he was originally presented.

Is it really Spock without the pointed ears?

Arex with two arms and two legs isn't Arex. It's the alien from the Kelvin without the hunchback.

In the one pic we've seen it looks a lot like a guy who's been CG'd over the top. How hard can it be to have a dummy third arm attached to the front of his uniform? And do the odd close-up shot of it being puppeted from beneath Chekov's desk?

I really, really hope we don't end up with a bastardized version of Arex.

I'm thrilled at the Phase II's decision to go beyond the CGI of TOS not only in quality but in type. I can't imagine CBS/Paramount taking their lead from this in reality, but I continue to dream it might happen.

CBS's current use of Trek is primarily as a prop for The Big Bang Theory, which makes fun of smart people, and JJA Trek, which makes smart people sick to their stomachs. In contrast, watching TOS or Phase II makes smart people happy to be alive.
