Like the rest of you I was not very impressed with the brewery sets, I think that ultimatley they didn't have the money to construct huge sets for engineering & shuttlebay etc.
Personally I would like to see the warp core in a traditional TMP/TNG sense but more in the white 'apple store' style of the bridge and some stainless steel/computer displays etc as well - a more traditional future-look than the brewery we ended up with.
In addition to this I would like to see more than just the old standard corridors with random doors leading to all our sets. One of the things that bothered me in the TV Shows was that blatantly they used the same corridor set that led to everything on the ship. Behind a door one scene will be sickbay and the next random door they will have the transporter room. Now I realise they couldn't afford huge sweeping sets because its a tv show on a budget... but in sickbays case I would hate to have 50 stretchers blocking the corridor trying to get in the one small random sickbay door! Im thinking big hospital style entrances and wards etc etc etc - somthing more practical!
So diversify the corridors & entrances to various rooms some more rather than same old. They can afford it now.
Cargo bays & Shuttlebays, the best glimpse we have ever had of a decent size & practical shuttlebay/cargo holds was in 1979 (TMP) - I think a big budget justifies not having to use some random huge room like in the TV Shows.
The ship is huge, show it off and make it more believable than redressing an old power station or a brewery!
I realise Abrams wanted to tell the story as best he could rather than pre-occupying himself with ensuring there is a lot of futuristic eyecandy, it's just that it would be really great if we could have both, take a leaf out of James Camerons book on this one please JJ.
