"Polaris"

Wow, nice shot of the view screen.

It is really amazing to have seen the green screen on the set and then see it come to life courtesy of the folks at NEO f/x.
 
What I meant by Gene Roddenberry's giant mouth is anything with a ship in space and some aliens is automatically going to come under the umbrella of Star Trek and get swallowed up unless it has things (concepts) that float it's boat like the force and light sabers otherwise why can't it be Star Trek. It's like a ma and pa store next to walmart. It has to be specialized. Plus aliens are a tough sell anyway.
 
Xortex. You're talking utter nonsense. Star Trek is just another variation on the very old Space Opera and Galactic Empires theme that is inclusive of everything from "Foundation" to "Forbidden Planet", to pick just two examples that pre-date Roddenberry's TV take on the old chestnut.
 
Well to suits I think it has to be sufficiently different to compete in the open market, you know the one that makes money. I just love space shows on t.v. and would watch Polaris if it was there.
 
People mostly make fan films out of love, not with the idea of selling it to an audience. It's not always about competition.

That said, Polaris is different enough from Star Trek in a few keys ways that it the story being told in this film wouldn't be possible in the Trek milieu. I can't say more without $poilering the plot.

I thought I had checked this thread already, don't know how I missed it.

The view screen is very nice.
 
No fixed date. If next weekend is successful we'll probably finish up with live action on a location shoot in August. My intention is to have the film finished sometime next year.
 
We stored a few elements of them - some control panels and wall sections - and had to trash the rest. The astrogator/hologram/coffee table is in storage. A lot of the button panels, the display art and the entry hatchway. Big structural stuff had to go.
 
Based on what we shot, any pickups we might need could probably be done with one or two isolated limbo set pieces. I worked very hard on the shoot to get as much B-Roll as possible to cover many possible editing contingencies. We've got tons of shots of people reacting, leaving and taking their stations, walking in and looking at the viewer, working their stations, etc. Coverage is safety.
 
That's an excellent point, and you've given me some insight into what we should do. Perhaps a couple of hours of filming general shots to yield 15 mins of general footage is a good idea...
 
Any idea what the final running time will be? I forget if this has been mentioned already.
