Do You Know How To Do Something?

The Boy Who Cried Worf

Rear Admiral
Rear Admiral
One of the things I regret most about having depression most of my life is it has kind of robbed me of the passion to really pursue something. I feel I have no hobbies or talents which help define me as a person. So help me out. What is something that you an do that sets you apart? Do you know how to play a musical instrument? Speak more than one language? Master an ancient Asian fighting system? Brag about yourself a little.

Can't help you here. I feel just like you. I wish I was like my dad, he knows more about vehicles (cars, trucks, heavy trucks, and don't even try and fool him.) He knows more than I could ever hope to learn. I know computers....but his knowledge about cars is far beyond mine. I can teach him web pages and security, but he gives me Oil Changes and brake advice and something about fluids and ball bearings and balance .......

Yes, I am am like you. I wish that I had that passion. I know computers but it is a common thing now. My dad common sense is beyond mine. He knows his limitations and he can just spout shit that i could not even guess.

I have a smile that immediately makes people think I'm up to something, and I can get people to open up to me quite well in one-on-one situations. Before they know it, they're telling me their life stories, darkest secrets, and saying "I don't know why I'm telling you this ..."

I'm also really good at making a big deal out of nothing, but that hasn't proved too useful so far.

I can fly airplanes.

If you can afford a few hundred dollars per month, you can get a license in a year or so. I took longer than that, though.

I'm the fighting astronomer. I've been honing my martial skills and academic abilities for the great war to come. Maybe I've said too much. :shifty:

You could never tell by my posting (usually done in great haste) but I am a fairly decent speller. I possess no other marketable skills.

As for having regrets I don't bother - sure I'd love to get a pilot's license or learn Tae Kwan Do or Spanish, but people who define other people by what they do and not who they are - well.

Having skills does add to who you are; yes - but the world is changing fast and one generation's skillset is fodder for the next generation's jokes.

Ah, but what we do does define us. I could think of myself as a writer all day long, but in truth, I never write. On the other hand, I work with computer systems all day long, customize cars (92 Miata with a turbo, ZOOM!), and have a vast collection of useless knowledge that would surely make me a champion on Jeopardy.

So who am I?

Well, back to the topic at hand....

I can take a sample of someone's bone marrow, I suppose. It's a bit like coring an apple. :)
