SPIDER-MAN 4 officially delayed - Update: Raimi/Maguire out, reboot in

Re: SPIDER-MAN 4 officially delayed - Update: Raimi/Maguire out, reboo

Yet Doc Dock was being controlled the entire time, so was it his selfish goals or were they that of the tentacles'?
The way I read it is that they were his selfish goals that the tentacles were taking advantage of. The tentacles were controlling him by removing any moral inhibitions.

And, yes, smart people can absolutely hold different opinions. Happens all the time in terms of films, TV shows, politics, etc. There's no reason to cast aspersions or to rationalize why someone thinks differently.

Well, that makes sense.

Indeed. I still enjoy Spider-Man 2 to some event, even though I don't put it in the same league as Batman Begins or X2.

Re: SPIDER-MAN 4 officially delayed - Update: Raimi/Maguire out, reboo

I liked Spider-Man 2, but it needed a Dracula.

Re: SPIDER-MAN 4 officially delayed - Update: Raimi/Maguire out, reboo

This reboot better do things right ,Do you think they will?

Jim Cameron was asked by MTV about whether he'd be interested in directing the Spider-Man reboot:

"No, no," Cameron said. "It's a little bit sloppy seconds, let's face it. I haven't gotten a phone call. I don't expect to — certainly [not] after this interview. But if you're thinking about it, it's sloppy seconds. I'm not interested."

:wtf:

That is all I got.

:wtf:

Re: SPIDER-MAN 4 officially delayed - Update: Raimi/Maguire out, reboo

Hey, I understand where Cameron is coming from. He probably wanted to be the guy who first brought Spider-Man into the screen, and not the guy reinventing him. His version would immediately and inevitably be compared to Sam Raimi's, so I get that. He does his own thing.

Re: SPIDER-MAN 4 officially delayed - Update: Raimi/Maguire out, reboo

^^I used to have a friend that would go out of his way to hate anything popular because he thought it made him unique. Eventually he started to get on everybody's nerves until he had almost no friends and even themn he found a way to twist that around in his favor too.

So generally speaking, I think some hate because it's true while others do it because they wanna stand out. So I take that stuff with grain of salt.

Wow, what a wonderful thing to say. Especially after I just explained to you my problems with the film. :wtf:
Yes, they are your problems with the film.
If I had issues with a film you liked, you wouldn't take it personal, would you?(at least I'd hope you wouldn't.)
You'd simply say: "That's too bad, but I still enjoyed it."
Thus taking my issues with it with a grain of salt, right?
There's no hard feelings in that.

So I hear what you & others have to say, I don't agree but I'm not going to hold it against anybody.;)
That's what I'm saying.
Plus, I don't think being smart has anything to do with personal taste. Example: Donald Trump is supposed to be smart but has very poor taste in furnature. Taste is also an opinion.

Re: SPIDER-MAN 4 officially delayed - Update: Raimi/Maguire out, reboo

^ Never mind The Trump's furniture, imagine being that rich and that's the best haircut you can get???!!!!

There are no hard feelings when people who disagree all put forward their opinions respectfully and then agree to disagree, but when one person implies that those who disagree with him are acting in bad faith and are poseurs who are knocking a popular film just to try to look cool then there may be hard feelings.

Has anyone seen this? Moviehole got details and comparisons of the two Spidey scripts, Spider-Man 4 and the reboot.

http://www.moviehole.net/201022855-caffeinated-clint-my-spider-senses

Apparently, Spider-Man 4 was shaping up to be a lot like Spider-Man 3... clashes between Sam and the studio... studio wanting more villains... hiring multiple writers, forcing retooling of Black Cat into Vultress.

The reboot... sounds like it's a strong script... but maybe not a strong Spider-Man script. I love the Dark Knight and all (my fave hero movie ever), but that tone isn't quite right for Spidey. These reports are always vague though that could be an exaggeration, and it could just mean a less-campy (emo-hair Pete, cheesy green goblin, raimi-esque horror moments, raidrops, etc) version of the story.

This, by the way, is another reason they should hire Matthew Vaughan, who is lobbying for the project........ he is a comics fan and I don't think he'll sign on if he thinks the script betrays the spirit of Spidey.

"I'm the goddamn Spider-Man!" doesn't really seem to fit for him. We going to get a dark and disturbed Superman next?

But on the flipside, we'll get a family friendly Punisher.

Only if you mis-read "I think some hate because for them it's true...."

Who are 'some'? By being vague like that, hopefully you can understand how others would perceive that.

Sorry, I don't.
I was trying to be vague because I wasn't referring to anybody directly.
I offered up an apology & reason further explaining why I said what I did, issue was taken with that too.
I've done what can, if that's not good enough.
Then there isn't much more I can do about it.

Here's a twist

Spider-Man 4 Off Because Director Saw Avatar

Newser) – The problems with the Spider-Man 4 script were genuine, but the real reason the flick got the ax is that the director saw Avatar. Sam Raimi became infatuated with the advanced computer graphics in the James Cameron blockbuster and wanted to take advantage of them, insiders tell New York. Sony said no, despite the fact that the sequel was the linchpin of its 2011 slate.

The cost of adding the CG gloss—which wouldn't have included 3D—was an issue, but time played a bigger factor. Sony had scheduled the release for May 6, 2011, and knew Raimi couldn’t meet that date. “The tipping point was that Sam wanted to do certain things that would push the envelope,” an insider says, “and Sony didn’t feel that was essential to the franchise.” Additionally, the script “threatened to torpedo the whole franchise.

Torpedo the whole franchise? Surely the script didn't call for a wedding did it?;)

It appears he wanted Spidey 4 to end with Peter giving up his mask since Mary Jane would find a new lover. Plus wanted some CGI cells.. Sony said no to the CGI idea and Hasbro said triple no to the idea of Peter giving up his powers since it could affect the toyline.

Despondent, Peter decides to abandon his superpowers, and Movie No. 4 ends with Peter Parker throwing away his Spider-Man mask, and audiences wondering if they are watching Superman II.

And here's the part about Hasbro and Sony saying No No:

Sony’s execs didn’t much care for this dour story line, and its consumer-products division especially detested the villain who, let’s face it, is pushing 60. (But hey, John Malkovich, from one Vulture to another, we think you look great! Really!) Columbia’s toy partner, Hasbro, also worried that suggesting its main character was packing it in might hurt future toy sales. And these days, toys are a key revenue stream, and demand far more forethought than that given to the scripts of $200 million movies. "This is piecemeal, old-school Hollywood mentality," says Jeff Gomez, President and CEO of Starlight Runner Entertainment, which advises studios on how to define their franchises' universes and mythologies for maximum toysploitation. (Past clients: Pirates of the Carribean, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, and — wait for it — Avatar!) "Spider-Man belongs to a millennial generation that demands continuity, and that requires long-term and careful design. None of that has existed for Spider-Man since the second movie."
