Of the 7 Star Wars cinema films made so far (including the disappointing 2008 The Clone Wars animated film), what are currently your 2 or even 3 favorite ones and please separately say why for each one named (as in for the script, direction, FX, music score and/or any other factors you consider most relevant.

Empire then Star Wars (it'll never be a new hope to me!) These two are by far the best of the bunch. Star Wars for the simplicity of taking an age old story and plonking it into space. Empire for the complexity of taking those simple story conventions and turning them on their head (the big battle's at the start, the hero loses etc).

I've always found it interesting that the best SW film is the one Lucas seemingly had the least control over.

#1 - Revenge of the Sith - For all its issues and problems (and boy does it have problems and issues), this is still my favorite Star Wars film. The emotional journey of the film is something that I really enjoy. Obi-Wan's world-shattering, "I'm so sorry," where he seems to be apologizing for so many things all at once, is (to me at least) just gripping. Admittedly, my enjoyment is almost purely irrational -- it's almost impossible to defend the film from the many valid criticisms.

#2 - The Empire Strikes Back - For all the reasons people usually for why this is the best Star Wars film. It really is the best Star Wars film in terms of story, character development, production, dialogue, and so forth. Plus, it's one hell of a ride.

I'm sorry but I checked and the correct answer is Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back.

The Empire Strikes Back is the clear favorite, then it's a toss-up between A New Hope and Revenge of the Sith. If we're talking the original, unaltered version of A New Hope (a.k.a. simply Star Wars), then that one wins out for second place.

These.

I'll give the boring, obvious answers...

ESB: best; ANH: close second. Some aspects of ROTJ were okay, the prequels - bleh.

The main problem with ROTJ, besides the repetitive plotline and the annoying little furballs, was that Luke had ceased to be a real character with any dimensionality and had simply become a boring oh-so-self-controlled Jedi. Characters that have no internal conflict are dull; even a big-shot Jedi could have some kind of duality about him (in fact, if we're supposed to believe that all that Dark Side stuff is serious threat, he should have that duality).

The sad story of the prequels has been told far too many times for me to reiterate it here. :D

Interesting and very revealing.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

1- ANH
2- ROTjedi

i second the above "bleh" to the prequels, and i'm one of those folks who "just never got" why everyone was so in love with ESB, i found it boring. and the ending just plain blew... the ending to me couldnt have been any worse than if they put up a giant TO BE CONTINUED... on the screen

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

A New Hope is my favourite. The scene where Luke watches the twin suns set is one of my favourite scenes from any movie.

Empire Strikes Back is just great.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

A New Hope and Empire Strikes Back.

I really do wish Lucas had stopped at 3.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

I think the ones where Padme does not appear and is never talked about are probably okay.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

The Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith.

Clone Wars just to stick to fingers up at the OP for calling it disappointing.

ROTS just because the awesome sabre fight on Mustafar

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

I'd say it's The Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars/A New Hope for me. They're just very good, very well made, very entertaining movies.

That being said, I really really like the prequels. Those are deeply flawed movies, with all kinds of problems and irritating little quirks and flaws, but they're still much better than most space opera flicks and I find them fascinating for all kinds of reasons.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

For the same reason, Empire Strikes Back and Revenge of the Sith. The main reason is because of the story. Both of these films just take the overall story from one point to another, and I like that.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

There are actually only three Star Wars films - Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back are my favorites.

See that light sabre duel sums up everything about the prequels for me. It starts of brilliantly, two men, formerly brothers in arms, now mortal enemies, so much character and history attatched to the fight. So much anger and emotion...unfortunately 30 seconds later it's two characters from a video game doing the volcano level!

While The Clone Wars is basically just an extended video game.

For all its other problems it was simply a mistake to turn these three episodes into a movie; it's built complete with stops and starts that makes it feel it'd flow more organically cut into three pieces shown on the small screen.

All that said, there probably isn't a Star Wars film I actively hate or anything.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

Attack of the Clones because I like wooden acting and the romantic aspect reminded me of Titanic.

The Clone Wars movie because it felt closer to live action than the PT combined.

My generic serious answer is of course ESB followed closely by ANH.

Re: Of the 7 Star Wars films, what 2 are your current favorite ones and

1. Empire. Why? Because it's fucking Empire.
2. ANH. Why? For "starting" the series, and there's some good action pieces in it, some great character stuff and it's just all around a good, fun, movie.
