I could use some cheering up

I don't really want to talk about it here, but I guess since you guys have been so supportive I should at least say what's going on. I lost my main job at the college when the department I worked in was terminated and have a tax lien on my minor job, causing me to get behind in my rent very quickly, and my landlord has threatened me with eviction. All my immediate family have passed away, sucks being the baby of the family, and my few friends can't help me, so there is a very real chance that I might become homeless in the near future.

Again, I really don't want to talk about it, but thanks to everyone for cheering me up, it's great to know people are rooting for you. :)

In June I had 2 jobs...now I have none. I have been very sick and it has been hard for me to find anything. I had to move back with family and my Dad got laid off. He did retire but he won't see a check til Dec. I am not trying to make light of your situation...I am in a tough spot now also. I have been in even worse places.

I can't tell you to be positive...because I am not. I hope something breaks for you and everything becomes better.

Hi Flukie, I am a little embarrassed that I'm not up on what's ailing you, but as one of those guys who occasionally posts how his life sucks and he is always thinking of killing himself I can relate. It helps in life to always have something to strive for. And it helps to have nice people on a board like STBBS who'll listen to your problems(stay out of TNZ though!). Here is a little something that might cheer you up. If not it will at least cheer Awesome Possum up.

If you live in America look into Section 8 housing if you haven't already. They may be able to help you with your rent.

He's not the only one. I've met her. She's a sweetheart and a real class act. Not something you see often in Hollywood.

Flukie - It's hard to know what to say. I've been close to in your position but never actually in it. Have you tried talking to the churches in your area. They might not be able to help you, but can point you to the people who can. How about a temp agency?

A house, a job, money in the bank account... these things do not make a man. That comes from within, and cannot be taken away.

Man, Flukie, I'm sorry to hear this. I hope you can find some new employment or assistance soon. :(

Let's see if I can contribute anything cheery. How about a poem by Wiley that appeared in BC in the early 70s:

In moments of adversity
When life's a total wreck
I think of those worse off than me
And really feel like heck

Hmm, maybe that didn't help. :alienblush:

How about this? If that doesn't cheer you up, then... uh... something else will.

Hang in there, Flukie. I've been in the same situation with housing, myself. I really hope you can sort something out and turn things around. All the best.

And also, this...

Flukie, I'm sorry you're having a rough time right now. Definitely check with some local churches.

I'm not very good at 'funny', I'm afraid, but I'll be praying for you. *hugs*

This video always makes me happy. :)

Sound of Music Flashmob

Wow! That's pretty cool! I was reading the comments and some were saying how fake and rehearsed it was, but the smiles and laughing of the people watching weren't, so it doesn't matter. :)
Indeed. In fact, of all the musical flash mobs I've seen, that one has the most believable crowd reactions and is the least "affected" seeming. I envy those who got to experience it live - it would be like stepping into a musical.

It's because she's a Canadian actress. Nathan Fillion is the same way. They didn't come up in the Hollywood scene, so they're more grounded. Lovely people, both of them. :)

This. (These?)

Thanks everyone for your support. I'm feeling better today, and if I can wrangle all my multitude of little projects together, I'll be able to sort it out for the short term, at least. :)

*puts more ads on his sites, sells his antique Schenectady postcards on ebay ( :( x10 ), accepts some room painting and basement cleaning offers, etc...*

Captain Robau's Lonely Hearts Club Band?

I'll probably watch my copy of Caligula tonight to cheer me up. Nothing like an overbudgeted porn movie about an insane emperor with stars like Malcolm McDowell, Sir John Gielgud, Peter O'Toole and Helen Mirren to lift one out of their doldrums.

Well, I know that *I* am in a much better mood now!

I just saw this on Failblog, and started laughing really hard. Thought of you, and hope that it brings even just a small smile to your face:
