An interesting "watercooler" news item, discussing findings based on what appears to be a longitudinal interview-based study - although the study's findings don't seem to be available yet on that journal's website (the European Journal of Operational Research is not really a journal I'm familiar with, either).

On the other hand, the news item does go on to mention:
The findings predict a happy future for pop star Beyonce Knowles, 28, and rapper husband Jay-Z, 39.

Yeah, no way am I going after any 17 or 18 year-olds. Just no, on so many different levels, the most important one being that I couldn't stand them even when I was one. Besides, my mom is older than my dad (and it is that way for most of the couples in my extended family) and that has worked out fine.

Also, none of us are British. So maybe this just doesn't apply.

Really? I'd rather have someone smarter than dumber.

Though the most likely event, and the ideal, I think, is to find someone of similar intelligence who is smarter in some ways, and not as smart in others.

Oh, I'm from the UK all right. :bolian: Now that you mention it, my accent, on the other hand, well, wanders. Seemingly, default mode right now is some bizarre Scottish/English hybrid.

I wouldn't want someone really dumb, no. The best would be someone around my intellect but I wouldn't want someone much smarter.

I think a happy medium is the key to happiness. No condescending, no one-upmanship, no bitterness, no neglect... Hand-holding to help the two of you together, co-operation to resolve a difficulty, knowledge and experiences shared and enriched...
