1975 Amt Command Bridge Model

M.Robison

Lieutenant Commander
Red Shirt
Recently on a trip to Vintage Stock I managed to procure three 1975 Amt Star Trek Models:

USS Enterprise Command Bridge
K-7 Space Station
Space Ship Set (I laugh when I look at the box. The term Space-ship instead of star-ship in Trek sounds so odd)

A guy who looked about 70 walked into the shop as I was visiting a friend. He wanted to know if they would buy some models. Lo and behold he pulled out these three kits.

We looked them over and determined that they indeed were authentic 1975 kits with the plastic still on the box.

I only opened the Command Bridge kit and looked at the condition which was quite good surprisingly.

After a bit of thought I decided that I wanted to assemble the bridge kit but I have a problem. The decal sheet included is severely cracked and faded, and I am afraid that they will fall apart once moistened.

Does anyone know where I can obtain a set of replacement decals for this kit?

Thnx!

The following are not technically decals, but rather "lighting sheets, but I think one should be able to use them without "back lighting".

Also note they are not exact replicas of the boxed decals but ironically, a tad more "screen accurate". Finally, they seem to be out of stock as I'm posting this, but check back every so often and hopefully some more will arrive.

EDIT: Looks like "Federation Models" has them in stock at the moment:

Hope this helps.

Many years ago, I got a hold of a sealed AMT Romulan BOP from the same era (1960's-1970's), and it too had dried out decals.

Maybe I can use some Pontiac fire chicken decals instead :).

That kit never did get finished. I spent a lot of time customizing the edge so it would have the stepped edge look and haven't got back to it yet.

I remember melting that kit back in the 70's. Ahh a fourth of July to remember! Deadly solar flares melted the ship and the bridge that year. Cool while it lasted.

I blew up a couple of models back in the 70s...blew em up REAL good with nacelles full of black cats...out in the street with the hot hot summer sun beating down on me...

Good times.

:guffaw:When I was younger I tried to recreate the death of the Enterprise from ST:III with some blasting caps and a really jacked up Ent model. I think the model ended up in more pieces than the movie Enterprise did.:shifty:

Ah yes, I had this one when I was a kid. Ah the memories... Good luck on your build.

They're not worth anything packed full of black cats and blown to smitherfreakin'reens either! :rommie:

But it's damned cool!

I built all of these models in the 1970's; the Bridge model is still on the shelf in my library. I bought two of them so I could build the "complete" bridge. When I look at it now, I can't believe I was patient enough to paint on all the controls (I didn't use the decals; they looked "wrong" to me) and the overhead displays. I also fashioned a "ceiling" based on the animated series (with the "intruder control" thingy), which has been lost over the years.

I also took a bit of artistic license and put a second doorway in, next to the viewscreen. It's not authentic but I always felt like it belonged there, so...

At 28 bucks they better be accurate!

Won't it lose some of its value if you assemble it?

SORRY MODERATOR - 2 posts in a row. Don't tase me, bro, but I just thought a' this:

I built a battleship model with my kid: many days, due to paint drying etc. Is ANYTHING more illustrative of the difference in attention spans than the demise of model building? ALL the kids I knew built some kinda model in the 70s/80s. I can't imagine modern teens doing such a non-immediate thing. Ok, be well, all! Trek on, Garth. Sorry, LORRD Garth!

I was hugely into model making as a kid (born '85 here), I was making models all through the 90's (still am today, although less so due to other more boring commitments).

Plenty of people my age made models and still continue to do so (even if it's more Warhammer oriented).

So I dunno - it was a popular hobby in the 90's at least.

Also Warhammer is pretty popular with kids even today, so whilst maybe model-making is a less 'mainstream' hobby for kids than it used to be, it's still as popular as ever.

Just my two cents re: kids today aren't so bad.

Pretty sure JTGraphics makes replacement decals for that. Check at Federation Models.

I really don't know how many of these sets my brothers and I went through in the 70s. So fragile. Cool though.

:techman: I also have considered doing a paint micro-detail instead of decals on my model. As far as the second door way, according to my Starfleet Tech manual for TOS it shows a second doorway near the view-screen....

:lol:Yes, no value at all, except to my 4 month old son who perhaps later in life will discover a love for the Trek as his father has..:shifty:
