space feels dangerous again in SGU, which is a nice element that I felt SGA and the latter half of SG1 completely missed. I appreciate how the writers are taking their time for how the characters are only slowly figuring out Destiny, the way the ship shakes and fluctuates, power issues, hygiene etc.

I'm not usually one to gawk, but holy shit those things are huge. If every Army person had boobs that big, every war would be over in hours. Yes, that includes the guys too.

Space is also wonderous again - the gas giant slingshot scene was very nicely played. Sci-fi characters really have got 'jaded' to this stuff.

Agreed. The aerobraking slingshot invites comparison to the terrestrial Age of Sail, when explorers had to work in some harmony with the environment around them - and were largely at the mercy of it. The real exploration of our solar system may likely to go through an era like that, but sci-fi tv and movies don't explore those ideas enough, I think.

There is something about the convenience of hyper/warp/jump/beaming technologies that reduces the grandeur of space a little bit, at least for me. The assumption is, I suppose, that modern audiences used to flying safely from New York to Tokyo in hours won't be able to relate to tacking against the (solar) wind. But I love that we are getting at least a glimpse of the thrill and terror of it.

I'm thinking that's also going to be the resolution of this power problem. I don't think it's an accident that the ship is headed into the sun; I think it's going to refuel.

It'll all be part of "green week" or whatever nonsense there is; Destiny is solar powered!

I read that article complaining about how the women are treated. They complained about the big tits. I am so glad that person isn't writing the show. It would be a feminist nightmare. We'd get lines about sex organs being on the inside and shit like that.

I'm really digging the direction this show is taking. The gas giant scene was too awesome; Eli's remark *Oh, other's thought of going here too* was awesome as well And I agree, I'm almost sure that the ship did what it did on purpose and not to drop people off on an habitable planet. I'm sure that the gas giant was just a teaser to what we'll see tomorrow!

Yes, based on the two stories we've seen so far, you have successfully mapped out the whole show.
If they didn't focus on missing supplies and absent supplies, you'd be on here moaning about that. "Where did they get the water from?" "Where did they get the food from?" It's the same complaint from Voyager or Atlantis again - some token mentions of limited supplies but largely, they have everything they could possibly want. At the start of the show, it is essentially necessary to have this type of story as the setup establishes itself.
