scfi's BEST SEX SCENE

My understanding is it involves the word "No!" at some point.

I have a joke along these lines, but it's in rather poor taste.

Explain this to me - why has a thread called "SciFi's best sex scene" turned into a discussion about the Alien raping a woman with his tail? :cardie:

That's still about sex, isn't it?

Admittedly if the rape does happen it takes place off-screen, so it doesn't count as a scene per se, but it's still within the topic.

Anyway, the thing about Ash, according to Ridley Scott on the commentaries, is, well... the guy doesn't have anything down there, but he still has the normal urges (god, that's not a nice way to build an android, is it?) - so stuffing a girlie mag at Ripley is as close as he's ever going to get.

In this case, I'm not sure :wtf:

Maybe we should also count the John Hurt death scene as an example of a birth scene... :vulcan:

In any case, I find it amazing that people can't think of a better sex scene in SF than an implied rape by alien's tail that might or might not have happened. :cardie:

All kinds of examples were cited...that this one came up last/most frequently doesn't make it best.

No ifs and buts. That's definitely a birth scene.

I can. John Hurt and the facehugger, as I observed upthread. ;)

The 'rape' scene seems to boil down to someone not dying quickly enough then? How very inconsiderate of the sound editor to get you all hot and bothered like that.

I should have stated at the top...sex scene that TURNED YOU on...if you were turned on by the facehugger scene in Alien, I can't help you on this one. Maybe Dr.Phil can...

You should have, but that frankly would be a less interesting thread to me. I'm not aroused by the Alien scene, but it's unnerving and weird elements is what make it so memorable as a strange bit of sci-fi business.

Another nominee - the scene in "Bram Stoker's Dracula" where Keanu Reeves is set upone by the three hot chick vampires.

I want to die in such a fashion.

My favorite has to be the scene in Star Wars.. you know the one I'm talking about.

C-3PO coming out of the hot oil bath all clean and ready as R2-D2 head slowly turns to look at his glistening gold body.... but I could have misinterpreted that scene.

I can't believe that there isn't a single good 'sex scene' (in the original definition of the term - two people doin' the horizontal lambada!) that people actually like in this genre.

And I can't believe that I have nothing to contribute here.

Obvious ones like Species are way too obvious...

Aaargh!

I think we may have found the problem with sci-fi. Somebody hire Monica Bellucci before she gets too old.

Oh wait - The Brotherhood of the Wolf! It introduced me to La Bellucci.

Well, as Irvin Kershner wryly observed of the scene in Empire Strikes Back where Leia and Han kiss passionately... that's their equivalent of a sex scene.

So on the one hand you've got sci-fi like Star Wars that get by with passionate kisses, and on the other hand you are wretch-inducing disturbing stuff like Alien, and in the middle you have sci-fi movies and TV that are generally too rating conscious of the subject to show enough flesh to actually result in a proper sex scene.

Which leaves you... yeah, with stuff like Species.:p

Sci-fi, live it, love it, learn it.

Also since I can't go with Kane I'm going with Empire Strikes Back. Hey, it's a classic moment.

Hmmm... That scene between Johnny Depp and Charlize Theron in "The Astronaut's Wife" was pretty intense. I'm sure that movie lands under "sci-fi".

I can't believe I didn't think of it before, but: the unisex shower scene in Starship Troopers. Not technically a sex scene in the sense that the nudity is not sexualized in-universe, but it certainly had a impact on my barely pubescent self when I saw it at the theatres. All petitions to institute such facilities at my high school foundered, sadly.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman
