For fans of Star Trek: The Experience

That article really doesn't give me too much faith in this thing getting off the ground anytime soon. Pluse the fact that it's going to take a lot of work to make the neonopolis fit the Star Trek theme based on my first hand observations of the the place. The biggest issue with that article is that if I'm a construction company and I get a contract to build the STTE-A and then I read the last one didn't get paid for tearing it down, I'm doing anything, why work for free?

It's a shame too, after watching Vernon's part 2 documentary on STTE there seemd to be a lot of enthusiasm for the place when it first opened, now I just don't get that same sense of enthusiasm from the current powers the be, despite the success of the new film. I really hope the new one can open in 2010, but I'm starting to have serious doubts about it.

What's really sad is that, with it's circular roof, Neonopolis could actually be retrofit rather nicely to showcase the Experience; give it a bit of a Starbase kind of look. Ah, well...

I think you're right. I think there needs to be a lot more excitement about the place from somebody who's willing to spend the money right now.

Curse you, Lotto Gods!

There really is a lot that could be done with the Neonopolis to make it treklike. The Hilton really missed out on cashing in on the new movie. They could have put together a package with a room and free tickets to the movie similiar to the old Nemesis package. That's what's hurting Vegas right now, the whole town has lost it's way. Instead of making it a cheap fun place to go, they've started to cater to a "higher roller" per se espeically the strip. One thing I liked about downtown once I finally went there was that you could have a good time there without really breaking the bank on just food and such.

While watching the 2nd part of Vernon's documentary I noticed that the original price for Klingon Adventure was just $10. I thought that was really cool that you could have such and awesome time for that little amount. I could understand a price increase after Borg 4-D was put in, but towards the end the ticket prices were about $50, that's insane. I know towards the end of my STTE visits I forgo the rides cause 1)I had been on them so many times before and 2)I'd rather hang out at Quark's and maybe buy something from the shops, although in the end I found some of the merchandise there to be lacking. As much blame as we love to give the Hilton for not renewing the contract, I think a high percentage of blame could be given to Ceder Fair for running it into the ground with high prices and less than steller items in the gift shop (IMO).

I think ultimately in order for STTE-A to really thrive, there needs to be a massive campagin, get the local downtown hotels to do a similar "Nemesis package" like the hilton had, the economy needs to recover in a really big way (which I really don't see happening) and it needs to be managed by people who understand Star Trek in all it's incarnations and understands what Star Trek fans like and also understand how to make it marketable to non-fans alike. I used to tell my friends who weren't big Trek fans that you don't have to be a fan to have fun at STTE, it's such an amazing place that it transcended all that.

I think the overall climb is going to be rough, but if the stars align just right then maybe we can catch lightining in a bottle twice.

OMG BIGGSHOW!!!!! That video was freaking awesome!!!!!

Question: has it been discussed here on the BBS what auditioning for the STT was like? Were most (if not all) of the actors Trekkers?

If this has been discussed somewhere, could someone post a link to that thread? I would LOVE to read about it!

For those of you who are still in mourning for STTE Classic (and waiting breathlessly for further news of STTE-A), sink your teeth into the juicy goodness of the following site:

Vernon Wilmer is our unofficial historian and is in the process of collecting vast amounts of images and video in reference to STTE. Revisit some of your old friends and if you have any photos to share with Vernon, I'm sure he'd be interested, especially from the early years. I find it interesting that due to the expansion of digital photography there are many more images from STTE's closing than there are of its opening.

Enjoy,

Biggshow, AKA Kralk, son of T'Nek, and unofficial STTE pimp.

We went to the first go-round shortly after it opened. We had a 'regular' camera, and so i am going to have to dig through my albums to find the pictures, then scan and upload.

As you will see in that second video, the audition process was a bit unusual. I was there on the second day and some of the Vegas performers were having problems losing what I call the Vegas Voice, where everyone sounds like they're giving away a BRAND NEW CAR! They really wanted some real acting happening in the readings. The improv stuff was just goofy fun to see if you could be a fun person.

Sadly, not all the actors were Trekkies and most of those never really got it. For them it was mostly about collecting a paycheck for the least amount of work. Happily, most of the actors who became one of the alien ambassadors either were Trekkies to begin with or became so as they did their research. That attention to detail, I believe, showed up in their work.
