ENTER: TV & Media Avatar Contest | "Coming-of-age movies"

With the passing of writer/director John Hughes in August, we lost a filmmaker who made some movies that were big for a lot of kids growing up in the '80s such as Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club and Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

So what were your coming-of-age and/or rite-of-passage movies that struck a chord with you while you were growing up and/or coming into your own? The Karate Kid? Dead Poets Society? Lucas? Heathers? Pump Up the Volume? Dazed and Confused? Fast Times at Ridgemont High? Say Anything? Something newer? Something older?

The only rule is that it's from something you saw while you were coming-of-age.

Well this seems to be going poorly. :(

Not at all: it takes a couple of days to come up with a decent idea, another couple of days to find some decent source material and yet another couple of days to put it together to form a decent avatar - at least that's how it is for me...

Besides, this thing happened to me so many decades ago that it has been almost impossible to find the source material :alienblush: :rommie:

[ETA: Well, I found a couple of shots and the cover from the soundtrack (in those days it was on vinyl!!)]

I have absolutely no idea what those titles are about...

/.../Something older?

I guess; DISCO was HOT and I even attended a dance studio to learn the proper steps after watching this:

i don't even know when i came of age, to know what coming-of-age movies count.

unless i use the Tom Jane version of 'The Punisher' as it was the last VHS i rented and one of the first DVDs i bought...

Okay, I think it's time to ask for second entries from those who have already entered if you want to.

I honestly can't think of any "coming of age" movies I saw when I was comin' of age - they were all before I was of age or after!!!

Not about my generation, but a coming of age movie I grew up watching on TV:
