I know it's not the most popular in the world, but I'm suprised to be bringing in the first country music to the thread after nearly 30 posts...
1. Feel Too Much, Travis Tritt
2. In Another's Eyes, Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood
3. A New Friend, Star Trek Nemesis Soundtrack
4. Come Home, Trace Adkins

Going by the "skip repeat artist" rule, I skipped 3 more Garth Brooks songs and 2 Ledoux songs. I've had better random songs pop up before.

Probably has to do with the fact a disproportionate number of replies above yours were non-Americans. Country music has struggled to spread significantly beyond your borders. Not that I personally dislike it, but the airplay it gets here is essentially zero.

^ Unless you count horrible country pop, that gets far too much airplay here.

Unfortunately I do not have a media player, I have a shelf of CDs and records that get listened to one at a time.

Not so! I posted a Hank Williams song on the first page. There's a good chance that Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn, Dolly Parton, Webb Pierce, Faron Young, Buck Owens, Emmylou Harris &c. would have come up in my ten, but, random is random!

Everyone Justin mentions has been on my hard drive at one point or another, though I think the only Emmylou I have is her appearances on Gram Parsons albums. I'm not so much into many modern mainstream country performers, with occasional exceptions like Dwight Yoakam.

Looks like there's no country on the hard drive right now; the closest is alt.country stuff like Neko Case.

I'll try another spin...

  1. John Foxx, "Quiet Splendour," Cathedral Oceans II
  2. Al Wilson, "You Do the Right Things," Show And Tell: The Best Of Al Wilson
  3. The National, "Start a War," Boxer
  4. Goldfrapp, "Little Bird," Seventh Tree
  5. Steven Brown, "The Fall," Music for Solo Piano
  6. Ella Fitzgerald, "Over the Rainbow," The Complete Ella Fitzgerald Song Books
  7. The Angelic Process, "We All Die Laughing," Weighing Souls With Sand
  8. Mojave 3, "Tomorrow's Taken," Ask Me Tomorrow
  9. El-P, "Habeas Corpses (Draconian Love)," I'll Sleep When You're Dead
  10. Tricky, "C'Mon Baby," Knowle West Boy
Well, that's a pretty diverse bunch of tracks. At least Mojave 3 comes close to alt.country.

Fix You - Coldplay
Missing You - John Waite
Baby One More Time - Britney Spears
Home - Michael Buble
Word Up - Cameo
Kiss the Rain - Billie Myers
More, More, More - Rachel Stevens
Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong - Joe Cocker/Jennifer Warnes
Perfect - Fairground Attraction
Addicted to Love - Robert Palmer

I find it mildly scary that I'm actually the second person to have a Rachel Stevens song in a randomised list of just ten tracks.

Anyway, you can definitely see my predilection for 80s tracks and cheesy music in the above short selection. Doing a Temis, and listing my most listened to top 10 is even more magnificent:

Hip to be Square - Huey Lewis & the News
Dancing on the Ceiling - Lionel Ritchie
Invisible Touch - Genesis
Semi-Charmed Life - Third Eye Blind
December 1963 - Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons
Learning to Fly - Tom Petty
Taking Care of Business - Bachman Turner Overdrive
Bleeding Love - Leona Lewis
You Shook Me All Night Long - AC/DC
Ever Ever After - Carrie Underwood
Harder, Faster, Better, Stronger - Daft Punk

OK, here goes. ITunes DJ. I removed one song from the same band because I wanted to increase diversity.

What It's Like - Everlast
Hammerhead - The Offspring
Star - David Bowie
Nude - Radiohead
Blame it on the Tetons - Modest Mouse
Atomic Punk - Van Halen
Terminal Annex - Harvey Danger
Jumble, Jumble - White Stripes
Miss You - Rolling Stones
The Warrior's Code - Dropkick Murphys
Now that's a pretty damn random list.

I will now go back and commend/criticize everyone else's taste in music :p
