Don't forget, no new episode next week, due to the Labor Day holiday. Now, on to the next-to-last episode of the season ...

3. Not feeling it tonight.

Too much camp and too much filler and worst of all, characters acting like they are morons in a horror movie.

Some of the exposition that screamed EXPOSITION, too. Some of it made no sense. "Gods only exist in their minds..I didn't say he wasn't real." HUH?

The queen was pretty hokey.

What's her name's loathing of children was amusing.

How come Eric didn't feel it when Sookie was in danger? Or Bill? Having a gun pointed at you and walking around a creepy house wasn't enough?

We never knew why Carl seemed to serve Maryanne willingly.

Tara summoned Maryanne and wasted her money. Ouch. Tara's right back where she was (Stupid horror movie character) and now they got Lafayette. Must we keep torturing poor Lafayette?

An egg? WTF?
 
Ok, a few things. First, and most obvious, is the actress playing Sophie Ann (the Queen). The actress must be one unbelievably talented whore in bed. She must worship at the alter of the casting couch gods, because she can NOT act. I wouldn't even cast her in a third grade play.

Every second she's on screen, she just sucks the life out of the show, and was a horrendous mistake. I don't remember the actresses' name, but holy crap, I intend to find out and stay the fuck away from anything she's in from now on.

Hoyt - another "what the fuck?" moment. For the past several episodes, he's been all about Jessica and protecting her, and loving her, and being completely against his mother. Now, he's all about protecting his psycho mama and avoiding Jessica? What the hell? Did we just suddenly decide continuity wasn't allowed?

Jason was funny, the way he's totally grooving over Sam's shifting abilities. Perfectly in character with the Jason as portrayed this season.

What the hell was up with the men in drag? Eric in drag as Tara's mommy, then another guy wearing Sookie's clothes at the end.

Bud dancing with Andy was really funny, especially at the end when he has to go pooh.

Always a pleasure seeing Ginger (the Fangtasia's waitress), and Pam is ... well, she's still Pam.

Poor LaFayette.

Ok, since when can Eric fly? And, apparently, Bill?

Now, another *major* change from the books to the series is the Queen and Sookie. In the books, it is the Queen who sends Bill to find Sookie in the first place. He is only pretending to care about her, because the Queen has ordered him to. It is the cause of their (first) breakup, and the reason she finds herself in Eric's arms. Well, Eric's, and Quinn's, and ....

Here, she barely has any idea who Sookie is, and is surprised that Bill and Sookie are together. That came out of nowhere, and leads me to wonder just what is going to happen with season four.

Overall, about half of a good episode, and half a really craptastic show. It's especially disappointing when we've had 10 really good episodes before it.

First thought - well, it was during the day, so of course neither of them could come out and rescue her. Second thought - except, that's exactly what happened when you-know-who tried to kill Sookie at the end of season one, Bill DID get the message during the day and came out to try to rescue her. So, we're missing continuity there as well.
 
Not much to say, surprised to see Eric fly(!) and that looked really painful when Sookie beaned Tara's mother.

Evan Rachel Wood, she wasn't bad in King of California and The Wrestler. Don't know about the casting couch but I believe she's shacked up with Marilyn Manson.
 
Rewatching this, it felt like something was cut regarding Sookie's cousin...who just talks to Bill and he doesn't act surprised when she says she's Sookie's relative.

And again (why I rewatched), the Queen contradicts herself by saying gods exist only in human minds, and then "I didn't say [The God Who Comes] wasn't real."

ERROR...ERROR

Rosie the police receptionist is a hoot.

Maryanne values supernatural hearts, but kinda wasted Daphne's on a cannibal dinner? No back-up sacrifice for the ritual?

Also, Michelle Forbes is like an evil Wonder Woman, deflecting bullets and punching people. I think I've fallen under her spell, too. :adore:

Keep in mind I've never read the books. That said, I got the distinct impression that the Queen's had her eyes on Sookie for quite some time; Bill never once mentioned her name, the Queen seemed familiar with who and possibly what she is, and she does have her cousin as one of her feeding vessels. All of that can't be a coincidence.

Bad as her acting was, I still felt that she knew a lot more about what was going on then she was letting anyone know. And that she very much wants to meet Sookie face to face. She's just a very patient individual who believes in taking her time with everything she does. She all but said that in her very first line of the episode.
 
I loved how Sookie, who is the epitome of defenseless, always goes to the place with the most evil. Well, at least this Bon Temps Sookie is rather toned down than the Im-in-Dallas-and-I-looked-like-a-"Woman of the Night"-Sookie.

Best part is when Lafayette and Sookie are talking about Eric and the Dreams.
 
I only liked the Jason parts this week. The Mary Ann arc has worn me out. At first it was amusing, especially since I didnt know what she was. Then when I found out I was intrigued, now I just want it all to end.

I also thought the vampire queen would be more "mature" I guess. She seemed like a ditz. She didnt have to look old, but she could at least acted more "regal" and wise. How old is this chick anyway? I remember here saying something about the "industrial revolution". If she was turned back then, then she aint the oldest so why is she in charge?

Eric checking out the kids was kind of creepy especially with the news about that pervert Phillip Garrido who kidnapped and raped that 11 year Jaycee Dugard. That is what I kept thinking about during those scenes.

Sookie walking through her house was creepy, but she should have let Tara go. If Tara wants to go back and "rescue" eggs then let her, but I wouldnt have followed her overthere, especially since I know Mary Ann is some devil and can move as fast as Bill.

Whats up with that big egg?
 
I'm a bit disturbed knowing that Jason has read "World War Z".

I've got to sit down and think about how I feel about that.
 
While I enjoy True Blood, I gave this ep 4 stars. I took a star off for prolonging the end of Maryanne, whose character I don't particularly care for. Michelle Forbes has the uncanny ability to make me disike almost any character she plays! The ep did seem somewhat filler-ish to me, too. Now, I want to see a werewolf in the future. They exist, according to Sam and the Vampire Queen. And I'm sure the creators won't make them like the cliched werewolves, but more like the ones in the movie The Howling. -- RR
 
Decent episode, but there hasn't be an episode I hated.

Was I the only one that laughed at Carl's death? What a random way to go...

John Billingsley can play creepy with the best of them and the "It's better for my back" line had me in stitches.

What is up with that egg? Did Michelle Forbes lay that? Speaking of her, I agree with the post calling her a bad actress. I first saw her in TNG and hated her then and still hate her now. How does she keep getting work?

The "cuteness" of Jason being an idiot is wearing off. Hopefully next season he has something to do instead of run about playing the idiot. The same can be said for Andy Balfour. The gruff detective stereotype has grown old, let's get him some character development.
 
Does anyone else find it funny that someone with the name Dionysis gave this episode five stars? lol random.

And where's Trippy?
 
This show is getting really crap. In fact the last few episodes haven't been as good as the first half of the season.

What happened to the soldiers of the sun? Is the Dallas story suddenly over? Ever since team Sookie returned home it's been padded out badly, maybe they should've stayed in Dallas for one more ep. We get a hint that Sookie is more powerful towards Mary-Ann than we know, but it's just been left to hang until the final episode.

Again, Eric is a far more interesting character AND actor than Bill. I really don't know how he got the role. Or what Anna Paquin sees in him.

I'm hoping there's some real satisfactory conclusion in the final ep.

As for next season (not having read the novels), will Pam's ex be the new big bad? Will we see someone with her name tattooed on their belly appear in the closing scene...?

They are an ongoing group, and there's more to come in later books/seasons.

Most of the book was the Dallas story. It's all from Sookie's point of view, so all this stuff taking place with Sam and Bon Temps is new. There was also a lot more to the Dallas story that got cut in the tv version.

Can't argue that. Going from book to tv, they're changing things up ... and all this stuff with the Queen in this last episode is new. And, frankly, disappointing. Funny thing, though. I said something about how disappointed I was in that actress in the LJ group. They're the ones who are most pro-book, and yet I got attacked for thinking she was anything less than perfect. Weird.

She could be. But that flash thing came out of nowhere, and with them introducing this element so early, it's making me wonder if they're going to have anything left to tell in a couple seasons.

As for next season (not having read the novels), will Pam's ex be the new big bad? Will we see someone with her name tattooed on their belly appear in the closing scene...?

They put a lot of focus on the scene where her kids are talking about their daddy and how he has her name tattooed across his stomach. Normally, you don't mention completely random things like that in a story unless it's foreshadowing of some type.

My initial guess: He's going to be a werewolf. Which is why the foreshadowing is taking place with Sam. He's going to end up having to protect the kids or something.
